i mean, we talk about lincoln, matthew brady, and you remember a couple of photos of lincoln back therewith obama, it's becoming very kennedyesque. jody kantor wrote a very good book about it. what is really going on in the white house has been kept quite private. i think these photos open it up in a new way. >> he has not been a president that has forged a lot of relationships with legislators. what about that? >> i think that's true. i think he is a very private person. i think we take him at his word. he has wanted to be a good dad first and foremost. i think it was the deal he made with michelle that he was going to do that. he doesn't spend a lot of that free time eating popcorn and watching movies that may be a negative on his part. maybe he has needed to do a little more back slapping. jimmy carter didn't do a lot either. >> but i think these photographs in time are only going to make people like the president more. >> what about a "time's" explanation as to why they chose the president to be man of the year? finding and forging a new majority for turning weakness into opportunit

matthew brady's cooper union of abraham lincoln.e day he gave his cooper union address. he was presidential candidate lincoln and it's he believed that speech he gave that night in which he outlined his ideas about slavery, that speech is thought to have helped win lincoln the republican nomination and later the white house. this is the building where lincoln gave that speech in the east village of lower manhattan. what is now the administrative building of one of the most affordable colleges in country, it's free. the guy who gave cooper union the name, peter cooper, an industrialist and inventor and onetime presidential candidate himself, he believed that the best education should be ax ses i believe to anyone that qualified to get in. anyone including women and people of color. the question of whether a student can pay for tuition, he thought that should be irrelevant. for more than a century now every student has received a full tuition scholarship at one of the best colleges of the country. that's the mission and history of the
