it happened at landover road and matthew henson in hyattsville. megan mcgrath is live at the scene. what are police saying about what happened this morning? >> investigators are still here but starting to wrap up their investigation on the scene. you can see the white car there loaded on to the back of a tow truck. that is the vehicle that struck the woman who was killed here this morning. she was nearby right close to this bus stop across the street. police are trying to figure out now is whether that was the only car that hit her. police turned around traffic as the stop light, just up route 2902 at matthew henson avenue, the body of a woman, struck and killed while apparently trying to cross the street. >> put a light to stop the traffic so that people can come out of this neighborhood to get over here and so people can cross safely. do they not care? >> reporter: monica robertson lives nearby and has seen many accidents here. there's a bus stop but it's across the street from the neighborhood. there's no crosswalk, stop sign or light at that section of 202. robertson says it's n

they say a woman was struck while crossing landover road at matthew henson avenue in landover. brianne carter reports on why neighbors say this could be avoided. >> residents woke up this morning saddened to hear a woman crossing the busy six-lane road was struck and killed. prince george's county police say it all happened just before 6:00. authorities believe this car was involved. the driver stayed on scene. >> we're trying to rule out the possibility that other vehicles may have been here as well. >> residents are concerned that something like this could happen again. while there is a crosswalk and a stoplight just down the road at kenmore drive, here along this section of landover road there isn't. and residents say a number of people cross right here to get to the bus stop across the street. >> during rush hour this morning, our cameras caught several people crossing the middle of the road. >> every day people are crossing this highway. whatever they're doing, trying to get to that bus stop and get that bus. >> monica robertson has lived in this community 20 years and she
