commissioner maufas. thank you. i'll be very brief. so the ad hoc committee on personal matters in labor relations have meetings, wednesday, may 11. we had three informational item. the first informational item which is very interesting is that our staff's position based testing for civil service employees and we heard from stephanie kane and shawn sherburt. i'm going get the presentation up. but it really was based on what we need to do we've been working on this since november of 2010. and it's really about we as a district have been participating in civil service examines and really finding a way the sfusd can be an equal partner. our initiative is to provide base tested which began in november 2010. we've made service appointments. it's based on the actual civil service test for the classification or based on all of the steps that are needed to be taken in that are put in the process. what that does for us is that it's reduced the time for the applicant. we were told about six months for someone. the worse case scenario is three mo

president mendoza: commissioner maufas and commissioner fewer. commissioner maufas: i don't expect an answer because we are in the process of discussing this. as you can see, we are in the midst of a bit of a struggle with questions and process. because renewal seems inappropriate, it just is. you look like a new entity trying to start off using the same name, but you are doing something different than the previous associations. because this renewal has constrictions, we are restricted by that. the idea of renewing for five years is not something that i would be in favor of. as you are trying to get traction on what you're trying to do, there is a learning curve to do it on your own. i think we desperately need the help of the district and i don't think you can get it in the five-year plan. that means you do something without really coming back and getting assistance. my question is, is there a possibility when they are sent back to us to reapply? is that in the mix at all? are we still wrangling the application -- renewing the application period

commissioner maufas: i would like to propose an amendment. be it resolved down at the last part -- there are members representing each of the three divisions. president mendoza: i see consensus on that. nobody is good to argue about that. other comments from commissioners? commissioner norton: i actually wanted to ask our members with the you think this resolution does as it is titled. you have gotten mixed messages from board members. i think this is going to clarify the committee's role and allow you to move forward in your work. >> i would like to address that briefly. this is much clearer than the previous resolution. the cac is in general agreement with this proposal. the only question will be to the degree our style that we recommend any changes are possible changes to the funding, given that the funding has been consistent without changes, and that the significant changes that happened to be made by the board, independent of the cac. we are looking forward to, in the resolution, have in future meetings with the board of education. this

commissioner maufas: it is good to see you again. i just wanted to acknowledge that i have visited my local library at bartlett and 24 with my granddaughter, who is just an infant, but at my surprise, rediscovering the library myself, but also, when i pulled up with a stroller, there was already a line of strollers for folks in my neighborhood who already know about the many activities that are available there for young families. i just think that this is such a great introduction to the library again, i have rediscovered my local library with my granddaughter, which i, sort of thought that she needed to be around kindergarten or first grade, but that introduction to reading and activities and visiting the library can happen much earlier, and i am very excited to be able to go with her on a saturday or thursday afternoon when they have those programs. i think that is a great addition the i had never experienced at the library, but i can also share that with my granddaughter and tell my own child that there are programs there for youn
