from san jose to maui surviving a five hour flight by riding in the wheel well. there are unconfirmed reports an individual traveled from san jose to maui in the wheel well of flight 45 which arrived at 10:35 a.m. hawaii time. personnel in maui noticed an individual on the ramp after the plight's arrival and immediately notified airport security. a spokesperson for maneta confirmed fbi and tsa are investigating the teenager's claim. san jose airport has surveillance video network cameras. and the airport spokesperson won't continue firm whether anything was captured on video. we talked to sources in aviation who say it is unlikely that anyone could survive and stowing away in this manner and survive 10,000 feet in sub zero temperatures with that oxygen. and authorities are saying that the teenager was unconscious throughout this flight and that he regained consciousness after landing. a special agent said the teen will not be charged with the crime. hawaiian airlines says its main concern is for the teenager. there have been others who have stowed away and lived

the fbi says a 16-year-old boy stowed away on a hawaiian airlines plane from san jose to maui. and, miraculously, he survived the flight. here's a photo of the teenager being taken away by ambulance after he landed. the teen is from santa clara and authorities say he made the trip by hiding out near the landing gear. kron four's scott rates has the developing details from san jose international airport. the fbi says surveillance video taken from this airport clearly shows the 16-year-old hopping a fence earlier this morning to board the aircraft. the fbi says he snuck onto hawaiian airlines flight number 45. and, stowed away in a wheel well. and, if you know anything about airplanes -- thats extremely dangerous. incredibly, he survived the trip halfway across the pacific ocean. thats despite the freezing conditions -- 38-thousand feet up in the air. not to mention a lack of oxygen. the fbi says he was questioned on the tarmac in maui -- when authorities learned he didnt have identification. the boy tells the fbi he was running away from his family. however, he will not be charg

eventually making his way into the wheel well of hawaiian air flight bound for maui.y were obtained by our sister station. not yet verified you can see the boy's footprints where he stepped up into the wheel well and numerous foot and hand prints. you can see them on the door. he spent more than six hours on san jose airport property before the flight took off sunday morning. it is not clear how much of that time was except on the ramp versus how much time was spent on the wheel well. and if so, how was he not found? the boy survived that five and a half hour flight. with passengers in the cabin above unaware they had a stow away onboard. the flight took off long flight five and a half hours when we landed there was nothing on the tarmac nothing that would seem out of the order. the teen attended a school in san jose and transferred to santa clara high school because of issues he was having in a class as english as a second language. he was described as shy. the teen got into an argument with his dad and ran away over the weekend. with the hopes that he can fly to afr

the 15- year-old boy appears to have pulled off, a five-hour flight tucked into the whel well of a maui bound jet. investigators have video of the teen scaling the fence at the san jose airport. they say he made his way out on the runway and climbed up into a plane seemingly picked at random. a photo of the teen seem to back up what the ground crews say, that he department seem to be dirty and seems to have come through the oxygen and high altitude. today, neighbors say they are shocked their neighbor's teen son is at the center of the story and has them questioning airport security. >> i think in general this would concern me but in this particular incident, i mean, a little bit, i guess. >> reporter: now, the last we heard the teen is still in hawaii. no word on when he will return to the bay area. at this point, he's not facing any criminal charges for his trip. in the last couple of seconds while the story was airing, we saw somebody else come up to this door and try to knock one more time. still no answer from the time and no word about this incredible survival story. we're live in

turns out maui wasn't his destination. heather holmes is live with the story. >> reporter: a source is telling a hawaiian outlet that the boy was hoping to get on a flight to somalia to reunite with his mother. we now he was undetected for several hours what was supposed to be a secure area of san jose airport. >> reporter: it was a major breach of airport security. ktvu has confirmed that the 15- year-old who climbed up in the wheel well of a wheel well did so hours before the plane departed. this picture shows authorities looking over the 757 and the cramped area where the teen hid during the flight over the pacific ocean. authoritthorities say the su teen after he scaled a fence at the airport walking on the tarmac near airplanes. six or seven hours before the plane went for hawaii sunday morning. it wasn't until the flight landed in maui 5-1/2 hours later that the teen was discovered. the boy remains in the care of social workers in hawaii. we checked with the department of social services and said that the boy was res
