kron 4's maureen kelly explains the problem. and how it is going to affect when the bridge will be completed. >> reporter: caltrans says they got a bad batch of bolts from one of their u-s manufactuers..you can see some of them sticking out of the concrete here in this video at the beginning of the month 96 threaded rods that are intended to anchor this part of the span to it's support pillers were tightened .and when they were inspected a little over a week later.32 of them.nearly a third.were found to be broken. another 192 of the bolts installed have not been tightened.but will beand closely scruntinzed. caltrans says a sample of the bolts were tested before they were embedded in concretebut not every single one. a big part of the problem.some of the bolts can't be taken out because of where they are located. so they are currently trying to figure out a solutionsince the whole point of this multi billion dollar project it to make it safe during a seismic event. once they come up with a fix, it's believed it will take a month
