(pam) in the east bay...school student drowning in the schools' pool. a completed autopsy report is now claiming... the students' death was áánot a suicide. benjamin curry was a 9th grade student at san ramon valley high school. he was discovered by students and staff .... in the deep end at the schools pool, back on may 8th. at a makeshift memorial at the school... following his death - posters on suicide prevention were put up. many students said on camera, they believed curry had commited suicide. but a detailed report in the autopsy now says.... (grant) people are now stepping up after thousands of dollars worth of sports equipment was stolen from an oakland volunteer league. the thieves took almost $15-thousand dollars worth of baseball and soccer equipment from storage units. anything from cleats to uniforms to lawn mowers and the remote for the scoreboard. since the theft, the a's have donated five grand - with president dave kaval tweeting it's time to help get the kids back on the fields. then came a $5,000 donation from wells fargo. and another $5,000 from honda of oakland. combined, the donations are enough to replace what the thieves stole. kron4's maureen kelly talked to the health department in the county about why this is happening and whathey are doing to keep it from spreading. in january local doctors in marin county saw a spike of whooping cough cases...around 30 total ....amoung local high school students.and that trend is contining upwards.to date we've had over 130 cases that's the second highest number of reported cases in the state so far this year. the deputy health director for marin county says it's a disease that's can be hard to diagnose. it's normally it presents normally like a common cold often it's often not diagnosed by many physicians but we see it's more severe in children specially in very young infants where they have a more typical whooping sound to their cough the marin county health department is reaching out to those exposed to make sure any infants or pregnant women in their households that they are protected. during the last big california outbreak in 2014, two babies died. it's reccommended that newborns get their first vaccine in the five shot series starting at 2 months. students are requi

( robin )firework sales have started in the bay area. dublin was the first city to start selling "safe and sane" fireworks... the city opened sales yesterday at noon. pacifica is also in business. gilroy is the only city in santa clara county ... where "safe and sane" fireworks are allowed. eight people died in fireworks related emergencies last year. that's according to new numbers from the consumer product safety commission.they want to remind people to have a safe july fourth holiday. there were also an estimated 12-thousand-900 fireworks - related injuries in 2017. 67-percent of those occurred during july ... even after the holiday. kron4's maureen kelly has the latest on the investigation. ruby andersen's body was discovered by engineering staff here inside an internal stairwell of the san francisco general hospital power plant just before 1 pm wednesday. that's 10 days after the 76 year old was reported missing to the san francisco sheriff's department by a staff member of the residential care facility for the elderly located on the hospital's campus. she had signed herself out at 9am the day before, saying she planned to be back by 4p, but never returned.the board and care facility treats those over 60 years old with mental issues who need additional non medical care.family members say anderson suffered from dementia. this is the missing person's flyer that deputies circulated on campus. it turns out where anderson was last seen is not far from the plant where her body was found. it's a situation that brings back memories of lynn spaulding, the patient who died of hydration in a general hospital stairwell. that 2013 incident sparked a change in protocol that triggers

kron4's maureen kelly outlines the steps now being taken -- and she has new information on the victim. this is one of the entrances to the hospital's power plant.....the same building where the 76 year old woman was found dead in a stairwell wednesday 10 days after she was reported missing.today i tried the doors of the building.....and found them to be locked. a security badge is now needed to get into this building which is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. authorities say before ruby anderson's remains were found....the building did not require badge access for 12 hours a day.the deptment of public health says that friday their security vendor was on site assessing the installation of cameras and alarms in the power plant. meanwhile the state depart of health has launched an investigation into the building.here on this campus map you can see where the power plant is in relation to the residential care facility for the elderly. that's where anderson signed herself out from at around 9am may 19th. it's a board and care residence for those over sixty with diagnosed mental issues.

kron4s maureen kelly reports the suspect was allegedly fleeing officers after being spotted engagingwhat the chp is calling sideshow activity. the marks left behind from squealing tires can still be seen on the road here at the intersection of 167th avenue and los banos in unincorporate d san leandro. the chp says they were called to the scene by reports of what they are calling sideshow activity just before 430 am. a responding patrol unit witnessed the reckless driving first hand. the vehicle in question is a grey pick up tiires were burning out there was lots of smoke in the areathey say37 year old mario ramos medina was behind the wheel . after a 20 second pursuit, the suspect drove westbound into a driveway believed to be his own residence, colliding with a second pickup, belonging to the suspect, parked in front . both medina and one officer suffered minor injuries as the suspect went over a fence. his neighbor who did not want to appear on camera says he knows medina as a family man who's steadily employed. he's like a cool mellow dude i've never seen him do sideshow activity

kron4's maureen kelly has the details.d 30 cases would or diagnosed in our high schools and to date we've had over 130 cases that's the second highest number of reported cases in the state so far this year. the deputy health director for marin county says it's the disease, also known as pertussis can be hard to diagnose because it's symptoms are similar to that of the common cold. but it can be very serious, and even deadly for infants. we are most concerned about children and infants especially in fence because one they're not protected by their vaccine yet so they do not have an immunity against pertussis which is the bacteria that causes whooping cough as well is their respiratory symptoms could be more severe the marin county health department is reaching out to those exposed to make sure any infants or pregnant women in their households that they are protected. during the last big california outbreak in 2014, two babies died. it's reccommended that newborns get their first vaccine in the five shot series starting at 2
