max foster is joining us live from london. max, good morning. thank you for being here. i think that some people may not understand the way that this relationship works or how -- i mean, hamas is functionally the government in gaza. and we saw some government officials, they were talking about the military arm trying to claim that there was some sort of disconnect, but the reality is that they are kind of one in the same. and we have a bit of news that just crossed from jeremy diamond who says that the idf is accusinging hamas of hiding behind the people of gaza refusing or telling them not to leave. this is a dire governance situation for these people. and can you help explain kind of how we got here? >> well, hamas is a militant group but also a political group with widespread support as a political group amongst palestinians. so that is what you've got here. we also have a situation where israel ntisn't just trying to suppress hamas, it is trying to destroy it. and if suck cessful, it will be destroyed. and the next days or weeks i think will be horrendous for palesti

i'm max foster with our continuing coverage of israel at war. gaza based militant group hamas has released two more people it abducted, identified as israeli citizens, nurit cooper and yocheved lifshitz. they were handed over at the border crossing into egypt. they were taken to a medical center in israel where they were reunited with their families. >> translator: we received the first abductees a few minutes ago. we were very emotional. their medical condition is okay. they are talking. we immediately brought them to their family members. it was a very, very emotional meeting. we'll let them rest with the family. after that, we'll conduct a comprehensive physical examination. they will stay with us tonight and tomorrow we'll know exactly, but right now for them and for the family members, it is a very, very emotional situation and we're happy that they are here with us. >> both women were among the more than 200 people captured in hamas in the deadly rampage october 7. israel has been responding to that attack by bombarding gaza almost nonstop
