of course in the world but in every day police this work you know we're in uniforms we look like mayberry we're trying to help the community but as violence has increased and as we talked about it's as plain a law enforcement's had to keep up with that and it's really hard to keep up with that if you don't have more ballistic gear and and more and more weapons and things like that i would love to be able to get back in those days we don't need that till the terminal element subsides we're going to have to continue to at least match that and it doesn't look pretty on video it's the kind of difficult part of video you can't get context on video and in so when you see this on video you don't know what's happened before that i mean you don't know what's going on the information you also have and i think we have to do a better job of communicating the public when and when and why we're actually use here and finally before we go i just want to ask you as a serving policeman someone of 27 years service obviously in policing change over the years what is the mood now as well. you have seen polici

. >>> a vegetation fire in san jose burned several acres in a county park near mayberry road and jacksono shows the fire burn an area around the parks baseball diamond. the fire broke out just before 5:00 this evening. cruise managed to have it fully under control in about two hours. nobody was hurt and the cause of the fire is under investigation . >>> to a homicide investigation. and initially quiet time in san mateo county. a man was fatally shot in a cemetery. >> reporter: police in colma, known for cemeteries, are investigating a rare homicide with the victim shot and killed at a cemetery. >>> he was a visiting a gravesite, memorializing someone who was buried there. >> reporter: the police commander says officers responded to reports of a shooting memorial park on hillside boulevard at about 9:30 monday night. they found the victim, jaquan cheatham suffered from drug gunshot wounds. he died in hospital. police say there were witnesses . >> motive and circumstances are under investigation. it is an isolated incident. >> reporter: the 70s worn officers are working the investigation.

think mayberry, not fallujah.e's too many police officers in small towns that are wearing fatigues, battle dress uniforms, combat boots with their pants bloused in. that militarization has been a trend over 20 years. and we see some really disturbing images of aggression by police forces. we see police firing on unarmed civilians, on the press, on peaceful protesters. very aggressive stance. >> steve schmidt, i have to interrupt you to bring in gadi schwartz and the other horrifically sad and violent scene out in california, southern california, in santa monica tonight. gadi, what do you have? >> reporter: you see us drop our camera, you'll know why. but the promenade looting has begun. you can see what's going on over here. this is a foot action. we're going to take a walk down that way. i want to keep a close distance here. you've got people that are going inside. from what it looks like, you've got skirmishes going on in all kinds of different places throughout santa monica. and police have, for better or worse

if you're in mayberry, andy taylor, maybe a two-officer town, well obviously you could handle thingsa little differently than you can in a major metropolitan town like dallas, new york, or houston. that's why i believe that a one-size-fits-all solution does not make sense. we simply do not have the expertise, nor do we have the skill, to try to write legislation that will treat 330 million people the same way. but there are policies and practices that we can promote as best practices, and that's actually where i think the federal government's role is irreplaceable. it's really important. we can do that and provide good guidance to the states and local authorities. one example is a choke hold. choke holds are already banned from a number of law enforcement agencies across the country, but not all. in the past few weeks state legislatures and city councils have taken action to ban in dangerous and controversial practice, and i have no doubt more will follow suit. but this is a great example of the type of action we can and should take in washington and ensure america's law enforcement

first is an and a grief, mayberry policeman who is very decent with a lot of common the second type is the bernie fife type of policeman, very reactionary, to the point where you have to carry a single bullet in his pocket. the third type is, you put 100 fe, give himrney fi a full gun, put a little hate and prejudice and anxiety on the job in him. my experience was coming home from university to campus housing. four of us in a car. we were pulled over and we were asked the reason they stopped us. that was bad. we were yanked up and thrown up against the car. the car was searched and we were searched. luckily, we didn't have anything on us. they just told us to forget it. pretty rough experience. second experience was when i went to biloxi. we stopped in mobile and got a room and started walking down the street to find a place to eat. all of a sudden, we had five police cars and re-german three,d attack dogs -- surrounding us, it was terrifying. host: what would you like our guests to address? caller: i want to relieve an experience i had in paris also. host: you already gave the two. w
