>> reporter: a mysterious mayday call led the coast guard on a search for a distressed boater. coming up you will hear the call and we'll tell i you how the new technology pointed stoich -- we'll tell you how the new technology pointed searchers in the right direction. >>> firefighters worked to put out a fire through the night. another tenant is responsible of that -- for that fire. >>> good afternoon. topping our news this noontime, the u.s. coast guard is searching the waters off marin county after a mysterious mayday message. the frantic call came in last night. by using new equipment, the coast guard was able to estimate the location of the call as being made close to tiburon. ktvu's claudine wong joins us to learn if the search has made any progress. >> reporter: good afternoon. no, they've not made any progress. in fact, they've officially called this search off and still don't know who made this mayday call or why. but the coast guard does believe, they say, that the search has been extensive and they say new technology has -- was able to point them what -- point them i

one was able to make a mayday call. none of the people on board say they were wearing life jackets. >> he was swimming towards us saying, help me. got him to the edge of the boat, was holding onto him. he was responsive for the most part. when he was unresponsive, i pulled him toward me. >> definitely had a life jacket on all at times. >> reporter: but not this time? >> no. but that will on the change. >> reporter: that was ralph deacon, he said he remembers being out here and watching them build the richmond bridge. there were four people out here, ralph deacon, the owner of the boat, we don't want to give his name because we don't know his condition and may not have made it. they were doing cpr at the time they finally took him away. the four men went out to fish for albacore. fortunately, they were able to call the coast guard in order for them to be rescued off the boat. we'll continue to try to make some calls to find out the condition of the fourth person. kraig debro, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, kraig. >>>

i sent out a mayday call, so she flew in to help me. and my son is bombing out. we're going to this nice -- there or whatever. and he's at dinner, and i'm sitting there looking at this kid going, "do i hug him? do i give him prozac?" i mean, this kid is on the edge.
