let's check the forecast with rob mayeda. how are we looking today, rob? >> pretty good. but you want a nice, big jacket. the rain has moved on. low 30s in the north bay. we're going to see patchy frost this morning. breezy in the hills. a look here at your seven-day forecast. we stay dry today and thursday next week. the only concern weather wise could be patchy fog in the north bay. >> i saw it on soccer fields. no injuries are reported but southbound 101 your slow lane is blocked. no major slowing on the scene because there's such a light volume of traffic. from what i understand a lot of lights in the areas will be a distraction for the southbound drivers. >> well, former giants slugger barry bonds is ready to go back to federal court today to learn his fate. >> a judge will sentence the home run king for obstruction of justice conviction. a jury decided bonds was evasive during questioning in the steroids investigation. prosecutors recommended a sentence of 15 months in prison. usf law professor says his celebrity status could work against him. >> barry bonds' health

here is rob mayeda with the weather. >> good morning. just like yesterday, we will follow the freeze warning that is up through 9:00 for the inland valleys. another spare the air day with a lot of winds and cold air inversions. this is why we've had so many so far in december without any rain or wind around and then things start to change. tuesday and wednesday, finally a chance of showers creeping back in. but christmas day looks pretty good. air quality, not so much. inland valleys and healthy for sensitive groups as we wrap up the weekend. one thing that we'll watch is the high clouds off to the west spilling over the bay area as we head towards the afternoon. they won't produce rain but will probably filter out the sun and lead to slight cooling. notice the pattern that we're seeing. high pressure is off to the west and the jet stream tries to break through. that will introduce the chance of showers midweek and the jet stream stays right on the oregon-california border. any showers will likely move back up north and away from the bay

i'm kris sanchez along with meteorologist rob mayeda. if you are going up to get a christmas tree in the santa cruz mountains, you might feel the sprinkles. maybe some drizzle. 24 hours ago we thought we were going toet more showers,g but it is giving a little more moisture which has brought our temperatures up a few degrees. still mid-30s and novato, 40s elsewhere around the rest of the bay area.gr you can see from the south bay up toward the peninsula and the east bay we're seeing partly cloudy skies. a little patchy fog around novato. if you look closely offshore, you can see the spin of the clouds there. a lot of the action will miss the bay area today. as we go hour by hour, the cloudsilck p bbarolo block out some of the sun at times for the afternoon, so as we pass lunchtime, low 50s for most of the bay area and just a slight chance of showers. the best bet is from santa cruz southward. we'll see a better chance of rain showing up in your seven-day forecast. we'll let you know when the next better chance of rain is coming up in the

rob mayeda is in for jeff. >> we're watching delays which are close to two hours in spots at sfo. we'll show you the latest delay times in a moment. temperatures outside, actually not too far off from today's highs. low 50s and upper 40s around the east bay right now. 50 san francisco. 49 san jose. we did see the sea breeze pick up which pushed in more moisture overnight and that set us up for a foggy start to the morning with the extra moisture. not as cold overnight as we continue to see low clouds and foggy conditions. mainly 30s and 40s outside into tomorrow. we do have a voluntary no burn night tonight which is different than a spare the air alert. the reason why we're saying this is unhealthy in terms of a weather pattern, we get cold air inversion sets up where the warmer air sets up on top and it tends to act like a lid. what happens is folks, their commute, with wood-burning fireplaces, that temperature inversion locks in the smoke particles at ground level. this is the pattern we've been in really for most of the month. made worse this year by persistent high pressure an

meteorologist rob mayeda joins us now. i thing way the weather pattern is, you have a pretty good christmas day forecast already in the books. >> looks like things will be just like we're seeing right now. just some low clouds and dry conditions. high pressure really not giving any ground. right now it's once again cool, dropping into the 30s and 40s. but there's a change now. we've got low clouds filling around the bay. and at least partially that will act like a blanket overnight. the heed that radiates off the ground will hit that layer of clouds and go back to the surface. should not be quite as cold tomorrow morning, but still probably seeing some upper 30s to mid-40s for tomorrow morning. winds did turn briefly onshore. that supplied a little extra moisture and helped to get those low clouds to form. another spare the air day for the banning any of kind of wood burning appliances tomorrow. worst air quality will be in the north bay counties through monday afternoon. so low clouds will start things off tomorrow mornin

i am here with rob mayeda. >> we have high clouds. glad he with are able to see it this morning. what a view that says the moon continues to set off to the west. what you are going to want to do, especially around 6:00 as it reaches its peak, look for the moon. it will be taking on a rust color around 6:05 in the morning as the lunar eclipse is underway. the sun is going to rise in the east and on the opposite side, the earth's shadow cast across the moon. the moon goes through the shadow. as some of the light passes through the earth's atmosphere, you get the scattering of the lying and that makes the moon take on the orange color. depending, it is either red or dark. we feel it should be more on the orange tint. 30s outside today. today, 50s, 60s. high temperatures. tomorrow, though, you are going to want to unpack the umbrella. mixed high clouds today. showers in areas south of san francisco later in the day sunday, into monday morning. right now, still pretty good. >> how lucky is it. sometimes we have clouds. >> we are very lucky
