and right now, time for a little weather check with rob mayeda. >> we are watching low clouds in the bay area spilling into oakland and the inner bay. 54 degrees in san francisco but warm out in the tri-valley near 70 degrees in livermore and fairfield even though the sea breeze is strong. southwest winds at 25 into fairfield and a west wind at 12 into livermore and cool marine air flow in san jose. the humidity levels are starting to come up. the relative humidity close to 70%. the push of the marine air working into the delta and gill r roy. what is unusual in the next couple days is the daytime humidity levels on the increase. it is creating a display during the day with thunderstorms and at night as seen from the international space station this morning. you can see the powerful thunderstorms in the deserts. that was good news for the mountain fire helping the firefighters dropping rain on that fire. and now that moisture is moving into the l.a. basin, into the santa barbara area and south of fresno now. you have been watching this through the weekend. it has been l.a. to san die

let's bring in meteorologist rob mayeda. how is the hot weather playing a role in this. >> it's a ridge of high pressure from the desert southwest and the clockwise flow of air around it pulling the smoke from the south and southeast up to the bay area. you'll also notice powerful thunderstorms firing up across arizona and southern california. some of that mid-level moisture could drift to the bay area which could increase fire danger here with the risk of lightning-sparked fires. that's one of the things we are watching. the excessive heat warning continues. 90s and 100s and a flex alert as power reserves get uncomfortably close. you are asked to cut back on appliance use from 6:00 tomorrow evening and an extension of the hot temperatures and increasingly hot temperatures as we head to the middle of the workweek. we'll have a look at the seven-day forecast and what to expect for your neighborhood in a few minutes. >>> fire crews contained a brush fire that sent a lot of smoke over san jose and south bay cities this evening.

meteorologist rob mayeda who predicts better temperatures. >> yes sh, there is a strong se breeze and anybody who likes the 7 o0s and the 80s will be happy. we have misty skies and drizzle and place where you would not expect the low clouds such as dublin where you will be seeing i. and in livermore, southwest winds and the low clouds will start to break up inland by 12:00, and then by 2:00, staying inland and back towards the coast and into the evening. winds are out of the west primarily 10 to 20 miles per hour, and numbers as we head into the mid-afternoon, 70s to low 80s, and chilly day in san francisco and low to mid-60s for saturday. we will let you know if the temperature trend continues in the weekend forecast in a few minut minutes. >> okay. thank you, rob. we begin with a story in the east bay where the crews are working to clean up this muddy mess. they say a six-inch water main burst on 166th avenue and sending the water rushing down foothill boulevard and happened around highway 580 at 1:00 this morning. the nearby roads are shutdown and officials say it could take up to

. >> we're going to check in with rob mayeda. >> sometimes when the winds are just right, you can smell the garlic in san jose. right now, i think in morgan hill, if you step outside, you're probably smelling that. northwest wind at 10, stopping the smell of garlic. our temperatures have stayed inland today, mostly in the 70s and 80s. san francisco at 61 degrees right now. inland running just a few degrees cooler than a few hours ago. coming up at 6:00 tonight, we have giants versus cubs, should be close to 60 degrees around first pitch time. that's what you can expect if you're late and trying to get out to the ballpark for that first pitch. you can see missed already on the camera lens opinion as we go into tonight and tomorrow morning, the low clouds crossing over san francisco spilling back across the inner bay this evening, and eventually back into san jose, like we saw this morning. you can see entrenched on the coastline, all those low clouds. that's going to give us times for tomorrow morning. if you're going to head to the high country, watch out for big time thunder. flash flo

meteorologist rob mayeda in for christina. it's pretty chilly outside. >> it is.been watching the low clouds and at times mist falling around the commute, the commute out of the north bay and drizzle reported. so the low clouds doing a couple of things. blocking out the sun for now, and the marine layer is about 3,000 feet thick for this morning, reaching in livermore and fairfield. temperatures outside thanks to the low clouds not too bad. upper 50s for most of the area now. it is breezy. winds west at 30 again, highs in fairfield yesterday in the upper 70s. close to that again today. southeast wind now into san jose at 8 miles per hour. 10:00, 11:00, we'll see the low clouds breaking up. so around lunchtime we'll see the sunshine around the south bay out towards the tri-valley. and as we go towards the evening, more low clouds spilling back in. but tomorrow will be different in terms of the temperatures. you'll see that coming up in the seven-day forecast. 10:00, still in the 50s and 60s outside. so you can keep a jacket on around the central bay throughout the

okay. >> thank you, scott. >>> let's check in with rob mayeda, and it's a crazy forecast. >> it is. temperatures, low clouds, cooled off big time. today, it looks like day two of our almost taste of spring-like weather around the bay area. cool at times and a little windy. we had 55 degrees -- we have 5 now in san francisco. 57 in san jose. 56 in fairfield. notice almost everybody has the same temperature and the same type of weather outside. low clouds inland toward fairfield, and windy, southwest winds up to 25 miles per hour, and a little gusty in downtown san jose and out towards the airport, southeast winds from about 15 to 20 miles per hour this morning. so some of our weather headlines once again, low clouds into our inland valleys. those will start to disappear around 10:00. on the coast, the clouds will stick around, 60s and 70s for highs. but ahead, starting tomorrow, we'll see a temperature climb in some of the valleys, into the upper 80s. eventually on our way into the 90s as we head towards the weekend. satellite view is kind of interesting this morning. you can see we

. >>> we want to check in with rob mayeda on the weather down there as well. >> temperatures runningooler than yesterday. 95 in palm springs, i say down because typically it's been well above 100 degrees. they've had scattered showers nearby. 2700 plus acres burned so far. one of the things they're watching in addition to the temperatures and humidity are the way the winds are moving around around the main fire lab. the research lab has been down on sight today during the day with their light radar, lydar, looking into the smoke plume, kind of like a cat scan view into the large mountain fire, so they can detect things like the smoke layer or see instability aloft. look for up drafts and down drafts that can cause wildly different conditions on the surface. for the most part today, the fire behavior has benefited from the scattered showers which have been in the vicinity. they had a wild night last night, several of the casinos struck by lightning, all the moisture, which has been in vegas and palm springs now, is already started to reach the sierra. you can see some big thunderstorm

rob mayeda is joining us in for christina. >> yeah, the fog is hanging on in san francisco. 55 degreesand sunny in livermore. 63 in san jose. temperatures have cooled off thanks to a very strong sea breeze. concord to fairfield, a strong wind out of the west to livermore. 24 hour temperature change. livermore's high yesterday was about 88 degrees. so at this rate upper 70s out there towards tri valley. things have cooled off quite a bit. all of that wind is good news for air quality. in terms of ground air lows, no problem. nice and comfortable. air quality not an issue. at least through tomorrow, the second half of the week things will change up as 90s come on back. right now san francisco down to the coast, you're still socked in by the coast. sunny in san jose. we will see the low clouds spill back in as we head into the evening commute. you can see them here sweeping back across the bay and what's interesting tonight, that marine layer thickçó enough that we cod see some areas of drizzle for tomorrow morning. watch out for that for your tuesday morning commute. our temperatures tod
