[applause] if you were at the dinner last saturday or the inauguration, he can be a stand-up. ed lee announced jay knapf as the chief innovation officer. he is the chief innovation officer, but his nickname is chief heck officer. because we are going to adopt a charter to create jobs in san francisco, we want to think back to where jobs really originate, where people start their work ethic, and that is in grade school. we are to partner with community organizations in san francisco, and we have with us today chuck collins from the ymca, robert connolly from the boys and girls club, and eric mcdonald from united way. as we grow, we will put in a structured programs to give kids a path to employment. now let's talk about the team that will execute our vision. that is our member companies, many of whom are here. in your packets, there is a list of all of our member companies. we could not be prouder of the number of tech companies in san francisco who have already joined s.f. citi. at 5:

mayer brown, thank you very much. i know you are out there somewhere.sident, thank you for being here as well. i am is so happy, because we have a lot of things to celebrate. and i want to first and foremost thank one of the people that i have had a chance to work with, and i think she is a proud member of the filipino-american community here in san francisco, and that has been my chief adviser on families, children, education, and of course she is the president of our school board. hydra mendoza, thank you. thank you for being here. [applause] you know, as we celebrate filipino history month, we recognize the filipino history that is inextricably a part of our city's history. and during the historic struggle that we kept seniors -- remember those years where we stood on an alliance to protect our senior residence of the international hotel. we still had that legacy here, as we still a contract with residents of that hotel south of market. even today, i am proud, having stood on that that line and still fighting for justice and social causes to help wit

i am going to start with mayer brown, who became a friend a long time ago. has always been a supporter, someone that i trust his counsel, and his support has been meeting all -- meaningful to me. kamala harris, a wonderful friend, one that i met telephonically initially as i was considering coming to san francisco. from day one, we hit it off. your support, friendship, and your endorsement meant a great deal to me. gavin newsom, there is not much i can say. i would not be here but for gavin. he offered me the opportunity to come here to be the chief of police. at the time when we worked together, i could not have asked for a better mayor. you were there to support, you never micromanaged. you provided the tools for me to get the job done. as we were talking about replacing a mutual friend, someone i supported greatly, because i believe she was the most qualified person to be the attorney-general in this state, we started talking, and the offer came up, something quite unexpected. frankly, i have to think about it. it was not something that i was ready for. b

warren hellman and myself, and i know dianne feinstein and mayer brown as well, helped convince the end is one of the best meetings that warren and i have had, when we sat in his office for one hour, and we felt like we meant some headway, and we must have, because he is here. it is not a coincidence -- it is a coincidence, that the tech community it is following the example that warren hellman has set for this community. warren hellman and i were very close friends, and i think upstairs right now, he has a huge smile on his face. he cared as much about san francisco as any of us. he loved the tech community. a majority of his investments were in tech. he really gets what we are trying to do, and we should advance his cause of civic engagement. after ed decided to run, the tech community rallied around him. in an effort today, not to lose any of them momentum, we are forming this organization called sf citi. we do not want to lose the momentum for the tech agenda in san francisco, and we think this is an exciting day for us. we heard from ed in his neck inauguration when he declared san

mayer brown also had the opportunity to appoint a deputy of education -- mayor brown.make sure you share the information with us so we can get it out to others. the second policy without looking at bringing forward in june as teacher evaluation. there has got to be multiple majors for effectiveness. student achievement is measured, but what other teachers are doing around the school -- we want to bring that forward. at the end of the day, as mayor bloomberg has said, we have to make sure our kids are learning in every way. we do not want to be bodies just hear singing and dancing. we will be talking about that, in june. i would like mayor fischer -- he is our last speaker on this today -- again, what you are doing with that 55,000 deal -- what is it called? >> 55,000 degrees. >> and the last thought you want to share with us on that? and then i will tie one policy to what your doing. -- what you are doing. >> great. the government is great putting these goals out. 55,000 degrees. we say it is great and then go away, and prickly, nothing happens. how do you get 55,000 d
