grn reporter roger maynard is joinings from sydney, australia. what's the latest on this? >> reporter: potentially this is one of the biggest developments in the past four days. the chinese say they've picked up what could have been debris in the southern ocean, about three days ago. but they still aren't confirming that. they say it's just a grainy image at this time and they're not saying one way or the other, whether it's linked to a malaysian airlines flight 370. however, this latest discovery could fit in with the likely drift of the earlier image which we had reported three or four days ago. this latest piece of debris is about 75 miles from the earlier sighting. so that could fit in with the likely drift of any debris that might be in the area. so it's a significant sighting, but at the moment, totally unconfirmed whether it's related to the malaysian airlines flight. >> roger, we mentioned a moment ago we're approaching dawn or just past it. where does the search itself stand right now as we enter the third week? >> reporter: the search is really intensifying now.

grn reporter roger maynard is live with the latest. roger, hoping that these planes taking off they are finally going to bring us some answers? >> yes. we hope so, greta. we just had confirmations on the australian maritime safety authority that the search will get underway today. you will recall that yesterday it had to be suspended because of bad weather again. today the weather looks a bit better. the visibility looks fine. so, hopefully we will get about 11 aircrafts up in the sky today. heading down to that area. 1500 miles southwest of western australia. and looking specifically for those objects we have had spotted on satellite images. as you said, the thai satellite images show 300 objects in the area. measuring in varying sizes from 6 feet to 45 feet it is a lot to look for out of there. coupled with the japanese and french satellite sightings. and those areas, those aircraft looking for debris and of course in addition, shipping in the area looking for the debris. hoping to get eyeball contact with the debris so that if neces

in grn reporter roger maynard is live in sydney with the latest. roger, what's the latest there? >> well, greta, as you say, 122 objects were spotted by the french satellite four days ago now ships in the area are trying to detect that material, whatever it might be. one object was said to be about 70 feet long, which has given rise to speculation that this could be part of a wing other material appeared to be sullied or rather colorful blue in color. what's particularly interesting is that this amount of debris was found relatively close to other field of debris which was picked up by satellite a few days ago. the search is already underway. the ariel search is back on again outside. 11 aircraft are heading back to the search area about 1500 miles off the coast of southwestern australia. it is a race against time because more bad weather is on its way. and the australia maritime safety authorities say that the search may have to be called off later on today. meanwhile the search tips for the black box flight recorder. american locater is heading to the area which can be put to t
