there were a number of women physicians at the mayo clinic. very high proportion in the first decades. the numbers dropped down to one woman on staff by 1940. and this is sort of disappointing. 1939octors mayo died in and women were not added back onto the mayo clinic staff proportionally at all. and few in the 1950's 1960's. it was in 1970 when women were getting back into the medical schools in large numbers and then the mayo numbers increased. we wonder about that. a little bit of a culture change that happened in the 1940's and 1950's. the numbers now are increasing. the mayo school has -- the mayo clinic has its own school now and women represent 50% or more of this dunes. there is still a little bit of a glass ceiling there that they will acknowledge and they are working hard and diligently to place women in more leadership roles. what impressed me about the women who are involved in the founding of mayo clinic all the way from the first jan itress to the medical illustrator to the nurses is their courage, their determination, their comm
