mayors live and breathe that work.nd often your specific visions for development maximizing the use of a river front or enhancing a parks trail or reimagining a street scape embody a key insight we at the federal level would do well to think about, which is that part of how you keep a community connected in the social sense is helping to connect it in the literal, physical sense. or to put it another way, mayors understand that physical mobility is inescapably connected to socialort you in this too. a couple of years ago i was in a southside chicago neighborhood, roseland, discussing the effort to extend the red line further south so people in the community could access opportunity downtown. i couldn't help but do some mental math because there was a community called roseland, indiana, close to south bend where i grew up. it's about 90 miles away but if you were and you have a car, you can get to downtown chicago more quickly than if you're in the roseland neighborhood in chicago and don't have a car. we're changing th

he has worked for two previous mayors, mayor ed lee and mayor gavin newsom, dealing with sometimes very challenging budget circumstances. unlike the circumstances that we have. fortunately been able to enjoy for a few years as well. now we have some very challenging circumstance races ahead. and greg understands what that means . and even though he worked for two previous mayors, he's already said that i was his favorite. and right then and there i said, okay, let me let me figure out who this guy is. but fortunately for me, i got to know greg when we were when i first became mayor, i knew who he was. i knew what he did with the budget team. i understood his history around budgeting and work in san francisco. but when i was going through a transition with the department of public health, not only did greg wagner step up and manage that department through a challenging time, he was very helpful around the finances, very helpful around the work with the staff and helpful in that transition. he was a professional, he was knowledgeable and he was exactly what the department needed as it wen

what can you as a mayor sort of new under the scene. what could you do to force some sort of new policy that will get this situation under control? >> yeah, i appreciate it. an honor to be on with you. pride of csu pueblo. there is a way to solve this problem and three key steps for us. one is we do think that we should have expedited processing of these asylum claims. they should take 30 or 90 days and not six years. when folks arrive in our city, we want them to be have the ability to work. work authorization when they arrive they can support themselves and we don't need federal or state support. we want a coordinated entry system. the country to work to figure out where migrants should arrive and where there is capacity the same way we did with refugees from ukraine and afghanistan. we want the country to figure out how to manage the distribution process. >> dana: work permits. there are a lot of people in the country we need more workers and i'm for legal immigration. if you do work permits without securing the border won't incentiv
