[laughter] course, itit is -- is an election year and if you are in new york it is time that kennedy's what's again prove you can fool all of the people, all of the time, if your budget is big and the advertising is great. despite everything i have said tonight, i have the greatest admiration for all of our elected officials. tofact, i told my executor have me buried in chicago. because even after i am gone

i will give more of a chronology but i would like to introduce mayor deblasio.ou, commissioner. a painful day in our city. horrible tragedy on the west side. based on information we have at the moment, this was an of terror. a particularly cowardly act of terror. aimed at innocent civilians. aimed at people going about their lives who had no idea what was about to hit them. we, at this moment, based on the information we have, we know of eight innocent people who have lost their lives. 0ver eight innocent people who have lost their lives. over a dozen more are injured. we know that this action was intended to break our spirit. but we also know new yorkers are strong, new yorkers are resilient and our spirit will never be moved by an act of violence and an act meant to intimidate us. we have been tested before as a city very near the site of today's tragedy and new yorkers do not give in in the face of these kinds of actions. we will respond as we always do. we will be undeterred. and i want to thank everyone at the nypd, all our first responders, for their extra

mayor bill deblasio unveiled a pro program yesterday.n is to ease congestion by cutting back on curbside deliveries. the test will begin in january. it will last for six months. curbside deliveries from parked vehicles will not be allowed from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the evening. >> for people looking for pumpkins in texas and florida there's may not carry them. select home depot stores will not be selling pumpkins due to all the rain. farmers couldn't get their tractors into the field in time to harvest the pumpkins. >> all righty. speaking of pumpkins a small town in oregon doesn't just grow them, they race them, too. the annual pumpkin paddle race started 14 years ago. every autumn. >> look at the duck. >> largest pumpkin is crowned, the growers carve out the innards and they see how well they float. >> they're floating pretty well. >> those are huge giant pumpkins that i'm looking at. >> big old gourds. i like the mallard pumpkin but it looks like all that extra weight is slowing it down a little bit. >>

mayor bill deblasio said in news conference based on information we have at this moment this was an act of terror. and particularly could you warily act of terror aimed at innocent civilians. continuing the times reporting two law enforcement officials said the driver of the truck a 29-year-old man who came to the united states in 2010 was in quote grave condition. one official said he had rented that truck in new jersey. as an aside fox news is repor reporting in jersey city, new jersey. continuing the times reporting, the motorist driving south on the path in a home depot rental truck hit numerous people as nearby stive stress san high school was letting out for the day. officials said at least 15 people were injured. but officials were still working to assess the exact extent of the casualties. quoting now, he jumped out of the truck with a pellet gun yelled allah akbar and the first precinct lit him up unquote. that from a law enforcement official referring to a police officer who had been on post nearby. whom the authorities credit with saving lives. one of new york's finest. witne

it was interesting that the mayor of new york, bill deblasio, came out and said he was a lone wolf attackerised, that there are footprints in the sand which will lead to other people. i would imagine there will be intense activity to try to find out more about this person, whether he was acting in concert with anyone, whether he had had training and the potential, of course, if you are an american national security person, what the potential is for further attacks like this but it follows a pattern we have seen in europe, in paris, in london, in nice and berlin, where someone has gotten behind a car and found it is easy to cause carnage. the softest of targets. jon sopel, our north american editor. in other news: a former member of labour's national executive committee has told the bbc she was raped at the age of 19 at a party event by a party member and was then persuaded by a senior labour official to drop her allegations. bex bailey is now calling for an independent agency to investigate reports of assault and harassment within the party. our political correspondent vicki young reports.
