i am proud to serve on the disaster council with mayor lee. we are doing so much with the department of emergency management and city hall to make sure we are prepared for the next big one. it is also really important to remember the past. it is really important to honor those who serve us, kept a safe, and will continue to do so. for me, guardians of the city is what it is about. it is honoring our public safety departments, those who put their lives on the line for us, and will be critical for us as citizens of san francisco in the future when the next one hits. we need to make sure that we continue to be prepared with them in the future and to honor their past to make sure it is safe for future generations of all san franciscans to make sure we remember. it is an honor to do that. i look forward to working with everyone here in making this museum a reality in the future. thank you very much. with that i would like to welcome mayor lee to russian hill and welcome mayor lee has been a champion for car sharing and obviously making sure we have a transit first city. and i would like to invite him to say a few words. >> good morning. thank you, president chiu. yes, it was over two years ago where we began this conversation. but it also began with our own city fleet. and we were talking with city car share and zip car about how we can share vehicles and reduce carbon emissions and all of those great goals that mayor gavin newsome had announced that we wanted to really do enthusiastically. so if you see right in front of city hall the example that we gave everybody, the green car showcase, that began with our effort to signal that we were willing to even give up city parking spaces. you know how valuable city parking spaces are, we have wars within city government around who's parking spaces those are. but to signal a big culture change, one that we felt was important to our future of the city in reducing cars, we made it our own goal to reduce our own city fleet and begin with

mayor lee, you were there. i want to throw out a name that you have not heard. chinese a part of an action. he was with me every week. duane johnson of the mayor's office. this idea of community ambassador is -- came to the fore. at that time, chief gascon, and we want to keep him there, but we want to do something different. you could call that the urban core what ever you want. we thought this would be great, this would be fabulous. but it is wanting to come up with an idea, another to make it come to fruition. we went to the board. i remember talking to president chiu on the phone. chemical this off? guess what, we pulled it off. [applause] that is something that just does not happen. everybody universally loved this. i was here at the launch last year. i thought it was great. i knew it would do well. for once, the buying mission data proves that it was even better than we thought. to have this continue once again and now to be permanent is just a great thing. i happen to know them pretty intimately because they spend a lot of time with me. i will buy for all

thank you, mayor lee, for being here. we have mentors here. we have our interior designer, one of our interior designers, kimberly ryder, who put this space together in less than seven weeks, which is really astounding. thank you all. there's a lot of people here who have been super supportive and are here to help. we started greenstart because we believe that reducing the use of fossil fuels is the defining problem of our generation. and the answer is innovation. we need to innovate around expanding the use of clean energy. we need to innovate around energy efficiency and where does that innovation come from? over the last hundred years, especially in san francisco, especially in silicon valley, entrepreneurs have proven they're the heros that can make disruptive, powerful change. we want to nurture that. we want to accelerate that. we want to create that ecosystem right here in san francisco. so we're a start-up accelerator for clean tech. we're trying to make start-ups that are focusing on renewable energy and energy efficiency more success

thank you, mayor lee. last year when former mayor newsom and i were selling to the city and my colleagues on the board the america's cup, we talked about our opportunity to build one of the most amazing sailing events to one of the most amazing natural amphitheaters in our bay area. this would not only revitalize our waterfront, but this is a $1.4 billion economic opportunity. need to make sure this is a tide that will lift all of our boats. this is why it is so special. i want to acknowledge my colleague from sf made. we have over 200 recently- created manufacturing companies. i do not usually put this in front of the cameras, but it is here today. this company is an example of what need to do for the 21st century economy. unfortunately, mark white is in jury duty right now, but i am going to talk about rickshaw for a moment. the workers in the back -- 12 years ago, the workers might have been paid less than the minimum wage, making teachers that would sell for a couple bucks. here they get a healthy livi

it is because we have leadership like mayor lee who understands the role of libraries. k you for your wonderful testimonial. with us here as well from the mayor's office, the education adviser and school board president. under mayor lee we've worked collectively and collaboratively and there are a number of department heads i would like to thank for your being here. just on saturday there were five neighborhoods. i didn't get to all five. but there were five who all held neighborhood emergency response drills representing over 60 neighborhoods, and the nert program which the fire department is so proud of was in response to loma prieta. about 21 years ago nert became a program, because what we saw during loma prieta was that we had a very willing community but what we didn't have was a trained and well-prepared community. so we had them take courses to talk about utility shutoff and fire safety as well as first aid. and so we are also here to obviously sell the nert program to the community as well. and participate in today's discussion. with that, instead of having anne come back up, i'm proud to introduce the next speaker, also a native san from sis can and our police chief, chief sir. just yesterday mayor lee threaten threatened police interventions. the protesters would have to be moved out. they're asking the mayor to leave police out of it. >> we think it's important we as a city work to develop a protocol on how we can support the rights of assembly and speech while addressing any health concerns the city may have. >> the reason we're here is to make sure there's no violence here tonight. what we saw in oakland is not what we want to happen in san francisco. this is why we're all here. >> back out here leave, it's a peaceful setting. people inside are sleeping. yesterday the police chief handed out fliers saying the protesters were violating the lie with the use of poe pain tanks, public urination and overnight camping. police so far this morning are staying out of the bay. we've been out here more than two hours. i've seen just one police officer patrolling justin herman plaza so far. it should also be noelted we have put in calls and e-mails into the mayor. mayor ed lee and are awaiting word for him this morning. >> thank you
