that's mayor lee's legacy. it's not often we get to come and celebrate him but do so in a way where we're able to look out and say thank you because it's your work that's your legacy we're proud to keep moving forward. congratulation to all the winners of the impact awards and have a good time tonight. >> it feels so right to celebrate mayor lee on a moment when we're celebrating the great work of city employees and his passion and compassion and doggedness to get stuff done is reflective in the work you have done. i have worked on two initiatives with the city of san francisco i think will forever change the course of history. one was as a young lawyer on the same-sex marriage case back in 2004 which was a series of litigation that gave rise to prop 8 overturned by the supreme court validating gay marriage and the second was saving public housing. it was a super courageous thing mayor lee did. others might say those are federal buildings, federally funded, not my problem and he did the opposite and said we're

i want to pay tribute and remember fondly your late mayor ed lee. and then to make continued connections between our city and cork and here in san francisco. there is a time for everything. there is a time to be born, a time to die. there is a time to plant and a plant to uproot. there is a time to weep and a time to laugh. and there is a time to mourn and a time to dance. a time to be silent and a time to speak. so today, on behalf of the people of cork, i speak on their behalf to offer our deepest sympathy, our thoughts, and prayers to the wife of the late ed lee. to his two daughters. his entire family. and indeed, to you the people of san francisco on the loss of such an amazing man. he was a man of the people. and his focus was always the people. as a community organizer and civil rights lawyer and hard working son of an immigrant family, he understood the strength of the community and measured that by meeting the needs of all its people as they emerged. in 2012, as deputy lord mayor i was here to mark the commencement of the st. patrick's day

i won't spend too much more time, but i want to tell this group, when mayor lee died it was a monday ght, tuesday morning, london breed became mayor and everything happened there and mark farrell became mayor. when mayor breed was first in office and mayor farrell first in office, the very first meeting we took each of them to respectively was a briefing at dem with police leadership, dph, dem and all the first responder, public safety, because we feel that it is the primary responsibility of the mayor of san francisco to be prepared for any disaster, whether it's earthquake, terrorism, rain, heat, cold, whatever it is that faces us. it is the primary responsibility of the mayor of san francisco to be prepared for that and to understand his or her powers and responsibilities in that moment. so i think as simply as a symbol, but important symbol of how incredibly important this work is, that we as mayor staff, when we put the mayor calendar in front of him or her on the first day of office, said this is what we need you to focus on first, your primarily responsibility. i'll leave it at

and we were very encouraged by the high level political representation that traveled with mayor lee in september last year. and i know supervisor tang, supervisor safai, of course, mayor mark farrell, all traveled and we welcome that. to those of you who haven't visited ireland, just talk to them, they'll tell you how good a time they had and how productive a visit will be. and we're equally happy to have the lord mayor with us so quickly afterwards and the senior delegation from cork city council. long will that continue because those contacts are so important in building up that relationship. the second thing i just wanted to say, is that we are blessed in ireland to have such an enormous dispracti dispractice. through our diaspora we've influenced the world and have been influenced by the daas practice and trends in the world. it's leaders diaspora that i saw at the leadership of president of the committee, and what they're doing in creating even more links between ireland and san francisco and cork of course, and san francisco in an area where ireland since 2015, since we became th

but i'd like to highlight mayor lee. mayor lee was the one who said we need to do something about being on the troubled list and the housing story, and he just came up with the idea about who was the sean donovan and the hud folks, and i can talk more about that. but let me tell you. it does take 2 persynergy. let me tell you -- raise your hand if you're on staff for ccdc. i know joanna is the project manager, and she'll get to speak at the end. but i know the residents, they had faith. they trusted us. without the residents, you can't do nothing in this city. so it's a trust and the collaboration, that they did all the work. joanna led, our project manager, you get special kudos. i know eric wong wants it, too. special contractor. so much love and energy, and san francisco's leading the way for the whole country, i think. and what are we going to do with the public housing? but for now, i know the mayor's in a rush, and we are so thankful that he's present here, and i'm sure -- oh, the mic doesn't go that high. let's se

mayor farrell mentioned our y late mayor lee. back in july 2016, we toured our mayor for the late mission bay ferry landing. on that boat ride, mayor lee made the connection, hmm, if city owned industrial equipment and our fleet can transfer to renewable diesel, could the ferries, too? he had a big vision for this waterfront and for growth in our water transportation and linked this vision to environmental stewardship. his point person, tyrone viewed got on the job, teamed up with my key person, rich furman, and teamed up with important staff from the department. and ferry operators stepped up and agreed to make this change. so now with their partnership, we will have cleaner air for everyone in san francisco. and we are becoming alternative fuels leaders for ferries in san francisco at the exact time that we're expanding our ridership. it's such a great partnership to see more people on the bay and more people in ferries and knowing that's true ae going to be cleaner. we are so graceful to our late mayor for his call to action an

[applause] >> hello, everybody, my name is london breed, i'm president of the san francisco board of supervisors and i am so excited to be here today. as a former san francisco redevelopment agency commissioner, i know how long these projects, these major infill projects can take. i mean, but looking at mission bay and what we're doing with the shipyard and watching as this entire neighborhood change and provide more businesses, more housing, more parks, this is really a crown jewel for this particular area. i want to thank the giants for inves

in 2016, with the support of mayor lee, we were able to open up our dos benefits and resource hub at the corner of goff and otus and we wanted to help streamline the intake process for people who need our services and make it easier for them to find us. we constantly are up against people not knowing where to find senior services or services with people with disabilities and we wanted it to be our hub for those services. what we have are people can access home delivered meals, they can come in and sign up for those and they can call in and do it online. they can also make reports of abuse to adult protective services and they can get support of services and also we co located our county veteran service office there. so, last year we had about close to 15,000 intakes for those programs. we received close to 28,000 calls. we were able to work with about 2800 veterans and file 5700 claims for veterans, which result inside about $4 million in retroactive benefits for those veterans. in office on the aging, we have now served over 34,000 people in the last fiscal year and that is an incre

and that person is mayor ed lee. mayor lee was not about apathy, he was about action. to know what are you going to do next? it just so happens that i was with the mayor on what would end up being his last press event, because it was the day he died. he had just come back from the chicago climate summit and he was on fire. one of the last things i heard him say was that we must leave this planet in better shape than we found it. and he knew that our city could do this. he understood the importance of bold ideas, of pushing the envelope because that is what san francisco does. so many significant projects and policies are coming to fruition now because of mayor lee's vision and commitment to action. i often find myself imagining, he is looking down on all of us and smiling in his humble way with pride at what he put in motion. don't it always seem to go. the loss of his leadership is felt and we are inspired by his legacy to continue this work, to continue this work and move forward. over the next five months, we will be gearing up for governor jerry brown's global clim

i served on this board since 2010, appointed by mayor newsom and later mayor ed lee. in my personal life i'm a real estate broker. i have a small really estate office where i prosi proside -- provide sales and property management. i have a wife of 19 years, i have a son 17 and i have a son 16 and i have a daughter who is 14 who thinks that she's older than her two brothers. i have son who is also 32 and will make me a grandfather this year. the san francisco port is a very valuable asset planning a 7 and a half mile water front piece of real estate. actually, neglected over the years particularly due to its transition from maritime use to developments and recreational use. the changes in growth of the san francisco port need to be done in a very respectful way. the port belongs to the people of san francisco just like golden gate park does and needs to be managed for the people of san francisco. the port does not belong to any special group or to a group or developmenters as a category. i will work to operatimize the va of the port, i will work to have a san francisco
