if the hotly contested mayor's race in the hotly contested mayor's race. nbc bay area's ian cull is getting answers for us. and listen, hey, while nationally there has been a lot of focus on what polls say will be an incredibly tight race for president locally, there are complex processes that will be triggered by certain elections. oakland mayor sheng thao and alameda county da pamela price are facing recalls if tao is recalled, a special election will be held within four months to elect a new mayor. until that happens, the oakland city council president would be the interim mayor. for now, that's nikki fortunato bass. however, bass is running to be a county supervisor, so if she won that race, she'd only serve as interim mayor for a month. then the responsibility would fall to another council member. but some of those seats are up for election as well. the result? the experts say it's a little gray. the council reorganizes in january. in the first week in january. and so even if nikki as council president, loses in her supervisor election, it's possible
