emily: caroline hyde joins us live from london, as well as roger mcafee, cofounder of , a privateartners that invests in private intellectual property. great to have you on the show. highs, lows? bitcoin -- are we in a bubble? roger: i would think we probably are. i think it is important to distinguish between cryptocurrencies and the block chain technology that comes underneath them. to me, the thing about cryptocurrencies is they really are not currencies. they are really commodities, like soybeans. they are things that people trade to create a return. emily: what does that mean about the value? roger: it needs a will always be volatile. it is volatile by design. currencies, by definition, need to have stability. if you look at this and think about it, it is more like trading gold futures or oil futures. those are going to be inherently volatile. yes, there is something very valuable underneath them but you , would not use gold futures to pay your mortgage or your child's college tuition. -- if so you think a few you own bitcoin now, does it have long-term value? roger: it is too early
