let's get to andrew mccarron, on the phone with more information. what can you tell us? >> reporter: photographer dave satchel and i were just about a block away when we heard a swell of sirens and smelled smoke in the air. on foot we followed about a dozen ambulances, ten fire and ems trucks all ending up at washington and third street at the end of the tunnel where we found about 40 people, all of whom had just been evacuated from their vehicles. here's what happened as far as we know at this point. an empty school bus in the tunnel, suddenly filled with smoke. witnesses say they heard an explosion. the empty school bus became engulfed in flames. of course there are about 20 other vehicles in the tunnel. their cars were quickly becoming filled with smoke. almost immediately witnesses say police were in the tunnel evacuating people. some tell us they feared it was a terrorist attack. several of us did say police were shouting at them to abandon their vehicle, get out on foot, thankfully, no major injuries were reported. i know one woman i spoke with suffered an asthma a
