joe mccarthy flipped the script.he was more reasonable than his public hearings, which is a sign since he wasn't especially reasonable bear of how and hinged he became in the private hearings. and i think that he did a couple of things. one was any notion of witnesses having their rights without the window and they were presumed guilty from the start. second, he held in the violation of the senate tradition one-man hearings and when the one-man joe mccarthy was gone he turned the hearings over to staffers like lloyd cohen to do the grilling and a violation of people's rights on his behalf. the other thing was i think that he used those hearings as a test run for the witnesses that would stand up to him and were eloquent. he got to run these wonderful test runs and any propriety went out the window because nobody was there to keep him in check. >> host: not only when he did those public hearings was he giving senate hearings but he ended up on television and i think that is what we want to bring out as we read the boo

mccarthy: let me be clear. we have already passed the cares bill, which provides money for the post office. i have watched all the commissioners. there is plenty of money. the difference between mail ballots and absentees. this is a legitimate argument. because what happens if you are changing because of covid -- in california, we have half the people voting absentee. i vote absentee in a lot of times. because you can sign up to be a permanent absentee. in los angeles they have had , problems because when you apply by absentee it means you are already registered. you are filling out an application. they know it is going to you. you have a record. l.a. county got sued when they had a million more people on the rolls then they actually had. they had to clean up the records. if you change that to an all mail ballot, you sent everybody a ballot on the record. and they have not been updated. that is when you get a problem for some fraud because you don't have signature checks. it is not updated. that is where the pr

mccarthy: way there two -- big tech's way. rep. mccarthy: the democrats want to regulate it like it is a utility. then we have no innovation. nothing else. i want to have a competitive playing field. when you look at what amazon is able to do, you know who should have been amazon? sears. they had the catalog, they sold you everything. but they failed. the competition proved something better. what i see now from the big tech is they are not allowing competition to come up. we see that time and again from their practices. that is where government really should come in because technology improves every single day. before google, there was yahoo! and other search engines, right? the government came in and allowed google to move up. and now google goes out and quash is many times any new small company from rising up. that is a place we should really look at, and make sure there is a level playing field, there's competition, and someone is not controlling the market of utilizing it to control what people see and what people think. mike:

and senator mccarthy's relationship with the kennedys, and even when the senate votes to censor mccarthy and kennedy had a speech ready to support that censure but was in the hospital and unable to deliver that speech. i think because he's not able to publicly distance himself from mccarthy when others are, i think eleanor infers from that, and the ongoing family relations between the mccarthys and the kennedys, that he may not be as strong a candidate and may not share the same values that she shares, and i believe engages in some public criticism of kennedy as maybe not being the right candidate. and kennedy, i think, wisely does not engage in a public battle with eleanor roosevelt. i think he would not win that battle, but just very privately writes her and asks her to consider the facts and be open to meeting with him. and it's only in the in-person conversations that his genuine curiosity, his willingness to learn and his patriotism come through to her in a way that she can support him, but i can appreciate given what she knew at the time and her greater familiarity with stephenson

a spokesman for house republican leader kevin mccarthy said they were appalling.d trump was quick to herald her victory saying in a tweet wednesday morning, a future republican star and a real winner. a couple hours later, a mccarthy spokesperson said we look forward to greene and other republicans winning in november. asked on wednesday about greene's victory in georgia, and embrace of the fringe movement, house speaker nancy pelosi told cnn that republicans seem comfortable with it. >> now there have been other house republican candidates who have embraced this theory, but most of them have no chance of winning in the fall. there is another candidate in colorado, lauren bobert who did praise this theory back in -- during her primary, but her campaign, she does not follow the qanon theory. it appears that greene could be the one person she looks poised to win that could put her party in an awkward spot if she's walking these halls next year. >> not that awkward. went from calling it appalling to welcoming her candidacy and welcoming her winning. that's a 180. man
