the lead for mccormick continues to shrink ever so slightly.however caution viewers at home, we could be a ways away from this because there are a lot of votes outstanding up here in erie county, erie, p.a. i was looking at the numbers over the computer, 237 -- these are real votes for mccormick, 235 dr. mehmet oz, kathy barnette 224, so in this county alone, which is 15 of 67 in terms of size and pennsylvania, there is a lot of votes still out there. i look at pittsburgh, remember allegheny county, they are talking about two in population out of 67, and we got a ways to go there, too, talking 6800 rob votes, 40 to 100 dr. oz, and you see the difference here, grew up in washington county to the southwest. pittsburgh, the collar counties, suburbs, the excerpts, to the farmlands, energy is a big deal in that part of western pennsylvania, especially as you move to the east, as well, the issue of fracking. pop over here, this is lancaster just popped up, it is the first i have seen, but we are still talking fewer than a thousand votes, fewer than a

oz leading mccormick, the margin .02%. it appears that the biggest single source of outstanding votes, of folks who went voted at the polled yesterday is allegheny county. it's the pittsburgh area and it is david mccormick's home county. you see mccormick is leading overall. that's the overall vote in allegheny county. if you look at the election day vote in allegheny, because we have about 7,000 election day votes in allegheny county that have not been counted. mccormick is winning those by about six points over oz. there's a pool there of between 6,000 and 7,000 votes of election day votes in allegheny county. that would be an opportunity for mccormick to knock into that oz lead statewide of 2500. where else are we looking at outstanding votes in pennsylvania? you can look at delaware county right outside of philadelphia. there are ten precincts in delaware county that have yet to report their election day vote. mccormick is leading the election day vote there, 34-33, over oz. those are the two main sources of election d

but if it's mccormick, absolutely, because what does mccormick need to be the next senator from pennsylvania? he needs not just swing voters, not just maybe so-called country club republicans, if there are -- many of them left. most of them are in the collar counties around the big cities. but he does need some of the trump base. he does. and if they are convinced by the former president, just like many of them are convinced about what happened in 2020, that this is not legitimate, it certainly might hurt. the other thing that i just want to add to what michael said is that so far -- in the contest so far, republican contests -- 70% of republican primary voters have voted for a candidate not endorsed by donald trump. so, if there is any math that goes into what the former president decides to do in the future, that might help. >> michael, i mean, had barnett not been in the race, would most of her voters, do you think, have gone to -- to dr. oz? >> i think in this race, there were momentum shifts. i think that initially it was mccormick who had momentum. then trump weighs in for oz. i think

we think mccormick and oz are great candidates. i have nothing against david mccormick.my concern is if we start changing and cherry picking pieces of the law and what happens in november? do we accept ballots after election day? get rid of the secrecy envelope. this is the pennsylvania state law. the supreme court ruled this year that updated ballots should not be counted and we want this to hold for the november election. >> martha: all i can think is when you're listening to this, this is why these mail-in ballots are so complicated. if people walk in and place their ballot and have i.d. and show who they are, we wouldn't be in these situations. >> exactly. some people bring the ballot's in and hand it in. they don't have it time stamped. that's why you have to hands written it on the envelope the date. that's the stay law. we saw many state laws abandoned in 2020. we're saying to every state, uphold the laws on the books so we know the rules we're playing by. let's not change them after the game. that's why we're involved in this. we don't want to see laws changed af

mccormick has been leading oz in the mail count. the ballots counted up yesterday, mccormick led oz by 7 points. that is main reason that he was able to eat into the oz lead. he's been out pacing him in the mail-in ballots. it is a trump endorsed candidate, in this case mehmet oz have been worse with the mail-in ballots than with the same day ballots. so the bulk of the votes to be counted here are mail-in ballots. mccormick has been doing better than oz in mail-in. we're talking about a seven point difference in how they're doing on the mail-in ballots. so if you add all of this together, what it looks like is mccormick will get a big avenue boost when they get around to allegheny county, again that might not be until next week and oz may get some when they count what is left in philadelphia and could mccormick -- are there enough remaining mail ballots and can mccormick win them by a large enough margin that he could actually erase all of the this oz lead and move into the lead in this race. and of course when they all is said and

had you a ton of money spent against mccormick. one thing to keep in mind here, geographically in pennsylvania, i'll talk about this a lot tonight, is that on the primary ballot they do list the county of residence for each candidate. mccormick is going to be listed as allegheny county, it is where he's from originally. i know he spent a lot of his prefegsal -- professional career. that is one thing we're looking for tonight. and we heard talk about the pennsylvania suburbs but three-way race here on the republican side. we haven't had as much polling on the democratic side. fetterman has led big in the poling. we've seen the wild card with fetterman as he suffered the stroke over the weekend and he's not been out in public since then and recovering if fr it but that is a bit of a wild card on election day. you're talking about doug masthiano. he got the endorsement over the weekend and he and kathy barnette have crossed endorsed each other. so that is one of the other questions to look for tonight. if masthiano is running away, ar

tv doctor mehmet oz's lead is that linking, he is about 1,200 votes ahead of dave mccormick. thousands of ballots still need to be counted. kristen holmes is in pittsburgh with the very latest. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, erica. yeah, that margin remains razor thin. of course, the two big questions now are what is left to be counted and how exactly is that going to impact this race? so given cnn's estimate there are about 15,000 votes left to be counted, now, this is just a rough estimate here because not all counties actually give the exact amount of votes that need to be counted still, but of those 15,000 most of them are absentee ballots. now, this matters because what we have seen based on the trends of the votes that have been counted, absentee ballots tend to skew towards mccormick. this is something we saw yesterday. mccormick chip, chip, chipping away at that lead by oz and this is something that i have heard from the mccormick campaign now for two days, that is how they think they are going to win this election is through those absentee ballots. now, the

it's a nail-biter between mccormick and office. the philadelphia suburbs, the biggest piece of at standing votes. you see what's going on in those places, two things to keep in mind. number one, wherever this lands tonight. the final margin is critical because pennsylvania state law is automatic recount, it's the margin is less than or equal to half a percent. to 0.5. we can see right now, it's 0.2. it's two tenths of a coin separating these candidates. the prospect of a recount looms as a significant possibility at this point. and the other thing to keep in mind is, there are -- we've counted a few more in the last few minutes, but we're seeing now is that there are about 30,000 mail in battle ballots that haven't been counted. some counties are going to count them up at the very end tonight but there are a number of counties in pennsylvania that are not going to touch their mail-in ballots until tomorrow. so there is the prospect of a significant chunk of these 30,000 or so mail-in ballots will not be counted until tomorrow. so a
