what was striking to me watching the hearing this morning was jim mcdermott is a clown. i think, one of the least serious members of congress out of 535. but what was striking to me is the number of otherwise serious democrats, good democrats who were taking the jim mcdermott line and essentially making the argument that jim mcdermott was, and you heard this from people like llo doggett of texas who kept talking about tax subsidies for these groups. they're not getting tax subsidies. they're asking to keep their own money. there's a difference between tax exemption and tax subsidies. i thought one of the most compelling moments of the hearing came when these groups were asked what the effect of not getting their applications approved was, and sort of down the row people said my group has been dormant since 2011. so when you add all of these people last fall asking where were the tea party groups, where were the tea party groups? we now know to a certain extent. they were dormant because their applications were not approved. >> bret: another story we haven't focused on ye
