today we're going to chew on some mcdonald's earnings. you're invested in mcdonald's, and it is one of the 30 stocks in the dow industrials you're going to want to know how to read mcdonald's quarterly earnings report. it could help you decide to buy some of the stokes, sell some or stay investigated. mickey d's has been struggling of lately. despite the slump mcdonald's is beefing up its international presence. it added a thousand stores last year and will continue to add this year. profit also called net income, mcdonald's has dropped 5% in the first three months of the year to $1.2 billion. that's a big number but it's a decline, which is not good. that leads me to the second number that an i want you to look at in earnings report, revenue, a fancy word for sales. mcdonald's revenue was a hefty $6.7 billion. that's 1% increase from last year's first quarter. it's not great and one reason why the earnings fell. when you dig a little deeper, sales in its u.s. restaurant declined. mcdonald's likes to blame the harsh winter, but it's compe

mcdonald's closed down 35 cents yesterday. the activist investor pressing darden restaurant group to halt spin-off efforts of its red lobster chain gets some shareholder backing. jeffrey smith's starboard value has gotten consent from 54% of shareholders for a special meeting to vote on a proposed delay. darden now has 60 days in which to call a meeting to consider the non-binding proposal. darden shares closed up 3% yesterday. earnings give stocks a push. united technologies tops wall street's expectations, and raises its full year profit outlook.the stock closed up 80 cents at 119 dollars. at comcast -- the cable company says it's adding subscribers helping it's revenue gain 13%. yum brands did not deliver. profits from the owner of kfc and pizza hut fell short of analyst expectations, though sales in china -- a key market -- were up 11%. investors took that as a good sign... the stock rose more than 2% in after hours trading. and, solid sales of gilead sciences' hepatitis c drug heped push profits higher last quarter. reven

we're talking about mcdonald's and yum brands.s taco bell that came out with the waffle taco and is now offering breakfast. mcdonald's recently had been offering free coffee in an effort to solidify its commanding lead in breakfast and has about 25% market share when you look at q.s.r., quick service restaurants and its breakfast share and mcdonald's came out with its numbers today and it still, you know, it's still not doing fantastic in the united states, although it's doing less worse, you could say, and i saw a lot of talk today about sort of stabilization. so it still saw a negative .6% read for its com probable sales in the month of march. however, it's been incrementally getting better if you look over the past several months. and there's a lot of talk among mcdonald's analysts about execution in the second half of the year that they've been expanding their menu. we talked a lot about that. franchisees aren't happy with it and customers aren't necessarily real happy with it but that mcdonald's is really going to focus on wi
