based mcdonald's restaurants are franchises. typically the parent company leases the brand to independently run shops. the individual shops are responsible for the employees. this differs from the model where the parent company opens all the stores, and employees are subject to the same rules. but the new nlrb ruling on mcdonald's says the company shares responsibility for franchise operations. >> what do we want? mcdonald's remains closed after a car crashed into it earlier this morning. chopper four flew over the scene. you can see it there. we are live along annapolis with what led to the crash. megan. they were forced to close. take a look at the damage here at the side of the building. you can see the big hole that is in the brick wall. there is also smoke and water damage. >> it kind of woke me up this morning. >> they came looking for a quick breakfast but customers in the mcdonald's drive-through line got more than they bargained for when a stolen suv slammed into the side of the fast food restaurant. >> i just heard this big loud noise crashing into the building and looked up and sure enough the suv crash ed to the mcdonald's window. >> it all started with a carjacking. as the suspect sped off he hit a minny van. the driver followed the suv to the capital plaza mcdonald's where there was then a fender bender. >> very hysterical. i just told her to calm down, i'm on my way. and i got here and that's what i saw. her truck is prettier to up and police, fire truck

. >>> turning now to the corruption trial former virginia governor bob mcdonald. opening statements have been read in the governor's legal team is revealing pretty unusual defense. if you remember in january, the mcdonalds were indicted on 14 counts of federal corruption after allegedly using the office of the governor to enrich themselves. they're accused of accepting $165,000 in gifts from this man, johnny william, the former ceo of a veteran company. it included a $15,000 catering bill and $1,000 dress that the mcdonald's daughter's wedding. they were given loans, expensive jewelry, they were invited on vacations and golf outing. it alleges the governor use his office to help william's business. according to the legal team for bob and maureen mcdonald, he and his wife have been struggling through a broken marriage and maureen, she had a crush on the wealthy businessman. also partly to blame. maureen's legal team claims that he was larger than life. calling him the favorite play mate. unlike other man in her life, johnny williams paid attention to her. bob mcdon
