mcdonald's turnaround strategy, which included overhauling its menu is taking hold. shares of the fast food chain rose 4 1/2% to a record. so far this year, the stock has gained about 30%. trippe miller joins us now to talk about that. welcome, nice to have you here. >> the success of this report is being laid at the feet of mr. easter brook and his turnaround plan and it is being very successful, would you agree with that? >> i would agree with it, steve's done a marvelous job turning around, mcdonald's in an 18 month period. we believe the strategy he was implementing in europe prior to taking over the entire company is serving investors well, we think it's a great start, and hopefully an early sign for more good things to come for the company and shareholders. >> what are they changing about the food specifically? >> specifically, they're going to higher quality. one of the things you see out there is a demand for fresher, higher quality food across the price spectrum. whether it be in a happy meal for my children or a higher end burger, they're delivering that. i

vonnie: and mcdonald's has had the best quarter in many years and taking a victory lap, is mcdonald'sfood wise or benefiting from like chipotle's weakness? >> i think they have improved their food. their sales have started to recover. guest traffic was down a but higher menu prices are people buying more and now they say customers are coming back. somebody is saying, i am not going to cook at home, i am going to mcdonald's. better food and better values. the one dollar drinks bring people in. mcdonald's is nell and it and getting the value -- nailing it and getting the value right and the food right. vonnie: it shows you how you can change things around. maybe only two years ago that people were lamenting mcdonald'a fate. >> there was a customer story that chipotle and put never was taking over at that people wanted healthy stuff. people still want to value and mcdonald's has done things like taking antibiotics out of the chicken, better burgers and changed cooking technics and that is resonated. people are skeptical but it is working particularly in the u.s. vonnie: talk to us about

and this is how they're treated that mcdonald's? >> yeah.o full circle right back to snoop dogg, you know? in the comments that he's making to an impressionable young man that is obviously straying from reality. and the reality is that those police officers are there to help him and his family and his loved ones when they need assistance. so i hope mcdonald's took care of that out there. i think that they did. if not, i'm sure the national fop and other police agencies will make sure that they're aware of that situation and take care of that. but it's just a terrible thing. it's such a small percentage of people that get that type of attitude out there. a vast majority -- liz: i just got the information that that mcdonald's worker was indeed fired. >> yeah. and he should have, and i hope that it's a lesson learned. it's such a small portion of such great nation that is antipolice. they're just the loudest, and they get the most media attention in that. the vast majority of the citizens here in cleveland and elsewhere in the country are god-f

joseph >> yes, i guess mcdonald's is reporting that, let's take a quick look through the numbers of mcdonald'sut mcd reported just moments ago, looks like $1.70 $1.70 on revenue of $6.05 billion. i don't -- i don't see an outlook yet for mcdonald's >> stock up 1.4% >> is that a new high. 156. 156, the all-time high for mcdonald's this is a little slow, but that $1.70 that we're looking at may not be as important as the comp-store sales, especially in the u.s. people key off of that that was 3.9% which is solid global comp sales up 6.6%. the $1.70 i now see was eight cents ahead of expectations. and if you don't look at comps, just look at systemwide sales and constant currencies, it was up 8%. also, $1.8 billion was returned to shareholders through share with purchase, and through dividends, and the yield on the stock isn't necessarily why you buy it but it's not bad. 2.5% let's go through the quarter with bob darington, managing director and senior analyst at kelsey adviser group numbers just hit at this point, bob, and you know i guess you look at the stock and they're pretty good. you don't
