s tracee wilkins is live with the details. >> reporter: good morning, aaron. this was an amazing situation. let me start by telling about route one is still closed from the mcdonald's to about the university of maryland. and the cop car that was crashed has been tow aed away from the scene but the investigation is still continuing. so the road is still closed for now. let's go to the video so i can show you what this looked like. absolutely amazing. this video obtained online shows that before 11:00 last night police received a call for a man with a gun near lakeland road and route one and college park. they showed up and there was an exchange of gunfire between that man and them. what you're seeing is the man actually taking off down the street in the cop car. of course, he's the lead car with the other police cars trailing behind him. after he crashes they kind of corner hip. there were a couple of other police cars also involved in -- in an accident, let's say, when they tried to stop the car and make sure that he didn't try to back up and take off any more. they damaged other vehicles that had to be towed from the scene here. witnesses tell us they saw the man
