the shooting happened on mcfarland and saratoga avenue. nbc bay area's scott budman is live at the scene of the shooting. scott, what can you tell us? >> reporter: well, at this point the scene is wrapping up. investigators say they're about to leave the office park, but not before things were interrupted by gunfire this afternoon. deputies called to the scene on reports that an office worker was possibly suicidal. the first call around noon came in about a man in distress, possibly suicidal inside an office here in saratoga. >> the call came from inside the business. talk about a distress person. obviously whatever they told, i don't know what they told the dispatchers, but that's what the dispatchers type coded it and dispatched our deputies to a suicidal person. >> reporter: two sheriffs deputies tried to talk the person into giving up, but instead, the subject attacked. deputies say the man hit them with what's being described as something like a medieval object. that's when the deputy fired. >> after the deputy was struck by the objec
