scott mcgrew outlining how the suspect got inside the festival but let's start out with bob redell at the scene. he has more on the harrowing moments. bob? >> reporter: laura, the ap reports that one witness yelled at the shooter, shouted at him, "why are you doing this" and the shooter responded "because i'm angry." you have to walk through metal detectors and get past security with wands. akosccording to police the susp cut through a perimeter fence, crossed a creek and entered the festival that way. a number of people saw him as he approached the northern part of the festival. he was a young man wearing a camouflage shirt, a camouflage cap and he was carrying a long rifle. a woman selling honey here at the festival tells us two of her co-workers were shot. she watched the shooter reload, and then ran for her life. >> only 10, 15 feet away from us. he was loading his clip before he went to our booth, and was shooting but he was shooting random. he didn't pick that booth. he was just shooting. he wasn't trying, you know, anybody in particular. it was anybody in his way. >> reporter:

. >> and i'm scott mcgrew in for marcus washington. federal investigators are at the scene of the crash at the hayward airport. bob redell just spoke with those investigators and joins us live. bob, what did they have to say? >> reporter: well, scott, laura, you could see behind me the federal investigators are out there on the runway at the place where a helicopter crashed. they are looking for clues to explain what happened out here yesterday afternoon and to answer your question i did speak briefly with an investigator from the faa who told me they did conduct interviews yesterday but when i asked if they knew the cause of the crash, he said no they're still investigating. the man from the ntsb told me this was his first time at the crash site and might be able to update us later in afternoon if they learn anything. the aircraft was a four-seater robinson r-44, the gold standard when it comes to helicopters of this size. it went down around 2:30 yesterday and landed on its side in the grass just off the runway. two men on board, a f

scott mcgrew outlining how the suspect got inside the festival in the first place. bob redell is at the scene with more on the harrowing moments. bob? >> reporter: laura, the associated press is reporting that one person actually shouted at the shooter during the exchange of gunfire and shouted "why are you doing this" and according to the ap, the response was "because i'm really angry." this shooter apparently bypassed security to get into the festival. normally you'd walk down this road, you'd walk through the metal detectors, past security guards with those wands. police tell us he cut through a perimeter fence, went through the creek, which is on the border here of christmas hill park, and that's how he accessed the festival. now, a number of people say that they saw the man approach inside the northern part of the park, say he was in his 20s or 30s, wearing a camouflage shirt and hat, carrying a long rifle. a woman selling honey here at the festival tells us that two of her co-workers were shot. she watched the shooter reload and she ran for her life. >> only 1
