that was born coming past fort mchenry. as other battles occurred, it was here at the great fort mchenry observed the great arsenal democracy. i say to our allies here today, i was a little girl during world war ii, and i would be out here. what did you see if you came? you saw beckham steel with the smokestacks producing steel. you could see maybe over to the martin marietta airport where the blue angels took off yesterday where we were making the great seaplanes to fight for democracy. around the corner where the condos are now were two shipyards who made liberty ships every three weeks, a liberty ship sailed out of baltimore with great danger but a belief it it was their duty to be part of that great arsenal of democracy. so we say to our allies here today, we were glad to support and fight the great fight against facism. we're so honored that you were allied together in the global war against terrorism. it's not only terrorism that we fight here in baltimore in that war. we also fight war, we also fight poverty, disease

that's at the fort mchenry website we referred to in a previous segment. take a look at the website. we're speaking with nicole eustace, a professor at new york university. and her book is "war of 1812." 15 minutes more with professor eustace. let's hear from jim in bel air, maryland. jim? >> caller: thank you very much for taking my call. we're all so wrapped up in the celebration in baltimore, we're just about 24 miles from baltimore, but i wanted to relate a story if i might about the city of havre de grace which is in hartford county and whether or not miss eustace added any part into her book about the chesapeake bay and the admiral who came into the chesapeake bay in the upper part of the flats and stormed the city of havre de grace. british, of course, there's a wonderful story about the lighthouse keeper, commodore, john o'neal who was taken prisoner by the marines that left the admiral's flagship. they burned about 60% of havre de grace, leaving only about 40% standing. supposedly those of the elderly or the infirmed were left standing. the episco

chairman mchenry, ranking member quigley, members of subcommittee, it is my pleasure to testify today on matters related to the obama administration's automotive task force and the refusal of former automotive task force members to cooperate in efforts to understand the tax forces controversial decision to top up delphi corporation's pension plan for delphi employees who were members of the united auto workers labor union. general motors' decision to guarantee the obligations of a completely separate company, delphi, was completely unjustified under current established principles of bankruptcy law and it increased the cost to the taxpayer bailout of the automotive industry by more than $1 billion with no reciprocal benefit to general motors. i commend this committee for seeking answers to this unexplained behavior by the automotive task force and sig-t.a.r.p. christie romero for insisting on answers to these questions. all together, the government pumped $80 billion into -- of t.a.r.p. funds into the bailouts of general motors and chrysler and related entities, with as chairman mchenr
