i live a block from mclaren park. i raised a family of a block from mclaren park. in 2007, even though i was always volunteering for part issues, i realized we were not represented in the 2008 bond at all. through letter-writing and stewardship, we finally were able to get maclaren in the 2012 bond, and fought to have it raised up to $10 million. the only way of getting funding is through this fund. it is not like golden gate park. it does not get funding to other areas. $10 million may seem like a lot. there are other parts receiving more funding. i think mcclaren could use this opportunity now to go ahead and repair the millions of dollars of damage. in 2007, they said there were $58 million of restoration required. it is getting worse. everything is breaking down. there is a need for forestry. trees are diseased and coming down on the trails. they are buckling into the irrigation system. it is endless. if we could use this opportunity to get mcclaren fixed, it is a start. >> my name is fran martin. i am a board member of the san francisco parks alliance. i urge

mclaren park. we've done a lot of work with help mclaren park. all of us are very interested in making sure that this park finally get some of the investment that it deserves and needs, and that our neighborhoods want. this is supposedly officially a citywide park, but it does that get that kind of investment at all. last week i went to a meeting about a park bond issue that is coming up in 2012. 2008 there was nothing from the park bond issue. the one coming up, we are slated right now to get $6.5 million, but glen park at a huge influx of money from the 2008 bonds and now dipping again in 2012, while mclaren park sits with something like $57 million identified capital needs in 2007, and we're just getting a consensus to address those. people talk about part safety, and certainly that includes crime prevention, but also includes looking at the pathways. i use the park a lot. i use my health program. it would not very very healthy, some of those past, but some of those can fall flat in your face. there are so many needs in the area in terms of rec

this will increase funding to mclaren park, as well as golden gate park and insure the $4 million into real money stays intact, and i hope we will make the bond even stronger than already is. so the amendment i am offering and have thdistributed is on pae 7 of the bonds ordinance, section f. it said that it will read as follows. trail's reconstruction, $4 million. the portion of the proceeds of the proposed bond shall be used to repair and reconstruct park nature trails, pathways, and connectivity in golden gate park and john mclaren park. after identification and development of certain projects, and our mental review required will be contemplated. that is the amendment that i am proposing to the bonds ordinance. in addition, there is a technical correction to the bond resolution on page 4. there are dates being added. page four, line to. that would be changed to read as set forth in the general plan referral reports dated may 31, 2012 and june 20, 2012. those states have not been included before. that is a technical correction. colleagues, i hope you will support the bond and the amen

i live right next to mclaren park and another park. in the past several years, there have been tremendous improvements there. i know we have seen a slide in staffing levels. certainly, there are people during the gardening work and maintenance work, and they are very stretched for their time. i am not sure if it is because i live right next to the park that i get to see it that way, but it is actually something a lot to remark on. i have mentioned it before that it is very well-maintained along the edges and within the borders. it is very impressive. mclaren park is another issue because there are a lot more things to attend to in the park, but i have seen improvements there as well. so i just wanted to say that before we move to other aspects on the budget while you're on your discussion of maintenance. >> thank you. we are incredibly proud of our staff. this is a department that does more with less. isaf takes a lot of pride in their work and it shows. thank you -- my staff takes a lot of pride in the work in the shows. thank you for

i'm the president of friends of mclaren park. it is one of the oldest neighborhood community park groups in san francisco. i give a lot of tours through the park. during those tours, a lot of the folks in the group will think of the park as very scary. it has a lot of hills, there's a lot of dense groves. once you get towards the center of the park you really lose your orientation. you are very much in a remote area. there are a lot of trees that shield your view from the urban setting. you would simply see different groves that gives you a sense of freedom, of being outdoors, not being burdened by the worries of city life. john mclaren had said that golden gate park was too far away. he proposed that we have a park in the south end of the city. the campaign slogan was, people need this open space. one of the things that had to open is there were a lot of people who did a homestead here, about 25 different families. their property had to be bought up. so it took from 1928 to 1957 to buy up all the parcels of land that ended up in
