mdb's work includes cooperation with governments, and i think it is important for mdb's to understandcountries and in what way we can come to their help at this particular moment. haidi: do you think multilateral institutions should be directly involved in the debt restructuring's? raymond: ji -- jin: mdbtheir job in the past few decades has been providing finance to these countries. the sustainability for the mdb's to support them is important. as you know they have this preferred creditor status and they enjoy this status so so they can raise funds in the capital markets at the lowest possible cost. and this is indirect benefit to the borrowing countries. so it is very much important for mdb's to play a proper and positive role and to protect their preferred status and to preserve their image in the capital market so that there can today to below cost funding through the multilateral institutions. haidi: the asian infrastructure investment bank president jin liqun there are speaking to us earlier. coming from international auto show where top carmakers will unveil anything from a ne

so the closer cooperation of all of these mdb's is more important than ever. think we could have a heightened sense of that. we feel that. >> last time we spoke, you wanted to expand beyond asia. how much progress have you made? >> we have progress in sub-saharan africa. we are also starting to work in latin american countries. brazil is now very ambitious of working with asian infrastructure investment bank. the conductivity is important against the headwind of the deglobalization. i think we need to work even harder to convince people that it is in the best interests of all of these economies to work together. >> not to mention going full circle, the high-end certain over where global economies are going. how do you keep the quality of your loan book high and how do you choose products that make sense? especially when you look at the belt and road initiative that is seeing more debt distress. how does aiib compare to other infrastructure products? >> the world has never really been free of uncertainty. you look back at the last two or three decades, you had

. >> on the mdb reform which is going to be discussed, at these meetings there is obviously a lot of expectations that the proposal by the world bank to increase blending by $50 billion over the next 10 years will be accepted. there will be discussions on the next steps of that reform. i wonder if you can give us a sense of what specific actions you expect to be taken and what is the timing for that? will we see movements beyond that initial $50 billion by the time of the annual meetings in october? >> i see this as an initial set of reforms but there is definitely more to be done. what i'm hoping for is phasing in of additional actions over the remainder of this year. we hope to approve one of the most important recommendations from the capital adequacy framework set of recommendations but there are many additional recommendations that i would hope to see put in place. we need to continue to work with the world bank and other multilateral development banks to use their concessional funding pools to involve their use of diagnostic tools and their ability to respond not only to projec

it is not world bank evolution, it is mdb evolution. depending on which bank you are talking about, there's considerable room on the balance sheet following a similar playbook we are seeing here. in that sense, i agree very much there needs to be more money. our view on a capital increases it is really important to fix the operation, fix the incentive structure, make sure the money is being used effectively, use the money that is there already in terms of stretching their balance sheet the way it should be stretched before one turns around and says should i do more from a capital perspective. that has been our perspective -- not to rule them out in the future so much as to say there's a lot of scope to do things right in front of us and let's focus our attention there. host: the regional development bank where the u.s. has a presentation, i assume you are pursuing similar things and the world bank is the beginning and you will try to advocate for -- jay: the world bank is the flagship, so you go first to the world bank but that doesn't

it is the first time we are in negotiations related to the mdb senior status in debt restructuring andf held last week essentially highlighted the mdb will commit more ground financing for some of these debt restructuring countries. lisa: how much of what you were talking about first kenexa this? the crisis is not in the developing world as much with the rate picture. it is much more in the developed world, frankly u.s. the biggest market for these instruments. how much is that coloring the conversation and willingness to allow things to go on and losses together at a time fraud for the developed world? -- fraught for the developed world? lupin: the impact of high inflation in developing economies is important but it is not the front and center nikos of the debt negotiations. the debt restructuring issues are long-term. it strikes at the heart of how the paris club, china, india, saudi arabia are going to work together in future debt restructuring. these are longer-term issues that all parties recognize the importance of putting front and center. lisa: are you impressed of how imf has
