five people were medevaced off the boat. matt gutman has the latest on the search from los angeles. >> reporter: the u.s.s. fitzgerald has been tugged back to court, seven remain missing. multiple sailors were injured in the collision with the container ship. five sailors were hurt badly enough they had to be medevaced. one the ship's commanding officer. you can see responders near the wreckage to extract the wounded. helicopter footage shows the destroyers mangled mid section, the damage caving in compartments and destroying ship machinery and the radio room. damage above and below the water line caused major flooding, those red hoses seen pumping sea water out of the belly of the ship which typically has a crew of nearly 300. the navy said this 30,000-ton container ship and 79,000-ton destroyer collided in open water 56 miles southwest of japan. the navy telling abc news this morning, that the extent of the personnel injuries aboard the ship is still being assessed. there are two primary questions going forward, which of t
