the gallagher's basement is filled all year these days with word having gotten out via meg's facebook >> the 23rd is going to be a pretty hard day for my family. school has ther's made an annual tradition of collecting toys, which now get passed out twice a year, oncen december, one in july. this family was waiting for their young granddaughterd who ha just undergone surgery for a broken leg. meg chose her favoriteft that zip line doll, to leave for her. taylor mccoy was barely awake but managed to smile to say thank you for the wonderful surprise. her parents were grateful. >> it's just incredible to have that st of surprise after everything we've been through, it has been a very long 24 hours. >> meg remembers when she looked so forward to any surprise that someone would bring to her in the hospital. that's why she loves giving. ba >> actually i'd say it's more fun to give because i like to make people happy aik put a smile on their face and know that you're making their day a little bit better. s> well, meg has finished her chemotherapy andow back in school fulltime aft time after

this was three years ago, not long after 13-year-old meg gallagher was diagnosed with leukemia. she remembers december 23rd as if it were yesterday. >> i heard leukemia, but didn't know what it meant. >> she hadn't been feeling well. i thought she was faking it to get out of school. they found leukemia cells in her blomb. >> i re it was scary and i remember why was i on the floor eople with cancer. >> reporter: her mom explained what was happening. >> remember she was crying in the shower. i told her to op. i didn't want anybody to cry. >> reporter: she told her mother she wanted to turn that holiday memory into something positive, collecting toys and gifts for children where meg spent months recoveringta she srted it when she was a her cart is overflowing for kids of all ages. her favorites, a zip line toy she remembers seeing another patient with in the hospital. her favorite time is passing out the gifts. little kelly wasn't in the mood for visitors at first. that is,l un the right toy appeared and she gave a high five thank you. the gallag basement is filled l year these day
