reporter: yeah, megan. heart disease is the leading killer of women in the u.s. you guys learned that the hard way. tell us about your story. usually we think about heart attacks, but what you had was a little bit more serious. >> indeed. i actually have an electrical condition called long qt which i actually experienced sudden cardiac arrest on my 37th birthday. reporter: you had to have something implanted. >>> there's no actual cure for it, so what they do from a preventative standpoint is i have an internal defibrillator that will actually shock my heart back into sync if something happens. reporter: when did you find out that you had this similar condition? >> i had it when i was 11 and officially diagnosed when i was 12. reporter: you typically think heart disease as affecting older women. were you surprised and do you expect that in teens? >> well, with mine i had a feeling it was going to happen because of my mom and it's genetic. i have a lot of friends who have heart conditions as well. it doesn't surprise me as much as you think it would. reporter: bar
