megan mcgrath is live in gaithersburg to show us why this is a ricktricky storm to get ready for. >> reporter: and it's because of the rain coming first. we're here at the salt doun dome in gaithersburg and you can see the front end loader is moving the salt around. just a few minutes ago, they actually filled up a truck and that rubbing went out and hits the highway here. they're standing by waiting for that switchover. we'll get the sleet first and then things will switch over to snow. and because of all of the rain that we had overnight, and we're still seeing very light rain here in gaithersburg right now that makes it almost impossible to pre-treat the roads. any kind of chemical that they would put down would just be washed away. and i spoke to a state highway person and he talked about this kind of storm and why it's tricky. >> no pretreatment, for example. we have people on the road because they think it's just rain. they can't hear the radio and tv surprise. and so we have to work around them and with them and thankfully some people are hearing about staying off the roads. s
