megan?rter: barbara, the all-clear was given but not before the decision was made to close the school for the day. so students at lake braddock secondary school in burke were given an unexpected day off this morning. now, the search is on at this point for the person who made that fake bomb threat and if they are found, that individual could face charges. overnight, a bomb threat was e-mailed to a staff member here at the school. police were called right around 2:00 in the morning. bomb-sniffing dog was brought here to the school and a two-hour delay issued. however, this is a huge building and it did not appear according to police that the dogs could go through every room before the kids were due to show up for school. so the decision was made to close for the day, but then metro transit police were able to come to the scene with some of their dogs. so in the end, they were able to actually go through the school faster than they had expected around 9:00 a.m. that's when the all-clear was gi

meg ap mc megan mcgrath is there. >> reporter: a tractor trarl hit the man. the driver stayed on the scene and is cooperating with police. the pedestrian died though and the question is what was this man doing in the middle of the road. he was actually in a lachb traffic on southbound 270 by father hurley exit. traffic has gotten back to normal here. all of the lanes are open. but still police are trying to figure out exactly what happened why this man was in the roadway. now, this happened around 1:30 this morning. we're told that the pedestrian was in the third lane of traffic. there was a car that was nearby about 100 or so feet away but we're told that that car was not registered to the man who was killed. so it's unclear whether or not he was in any way associated with that car, whether there was a breakdown and that's why he had ended up on the roadway. they're still trying to piece all of that together. if you were driving southbound on 270 at this point, your commute will be okay. all of the lanes are open. with more on traffic tieups this morning, we

megan mcgrath is live with a look at the numbers. >> reporter: well, we have very very slippery conditions out here this morning. once you get to the main roads, they have been treated. you're in pretty good shape. but the side streets, sidewalks, very dangerous. take a look at the tree here behind me and you can see the coating of ice. it almost looks like the tree is made out of glass. and then you look down here on the sidewalk we're on o street in northwest washington and i'm not going to move around a whole lot here because this is just a sheet of ice. has not been treated. very very slick out here. and that's the situation with many sidewalks all around the district. so when you leave your house this morning, make sure that you are have a careful as you make your way out of your house down the steps and to your car. because we are seeing extremely slippery conditions out here this morning. so you'll want to make sure that you throw some salt down try to melt this a little bit. right now we have temperatures below freezi we're not seeing any melting. as the sun comes out maybe things

news 4 megan mcgrath has been watching construction crews all morning long in the rain., the rain not slowing crews down out there? >> reporter: no. hasn't slowed anything down. look behind me hee and see the crews working all the heavy equipment on the inbound side of the 16th street bridge. the work is happening around the clock as he rip out and replace this bridge over the next several months. we are definitely going to see traffic problems in the area. might be best to avoid this bridge all -- entirely. get used to the blaring of horns and the frustration of slow traffic.
