megan mcgrath picks up our coverage of the investigation from temple hills. megan? >> we >> reporter: well, eun, we're here live at the gateway of temple hills. if you look beyond the parking lot the door is open. you can see inside the apartment. you can see the sofa at the entrance of the apartment. investigators have been going in and out all night long. crime scene techs are on the scene. they've been there all night. they're collecting evidence, taking pictures and the like trying to figure out exactly what happened here. now, the shots rang out at around 10:00 last night. police got here and found a woman dead inside the apartment and then a man was found outside. he was shot several times. he was taken to the hospital. but at this point, we don't have any updates on his condition. police don't have any information that they're releasing with regard to suspects or motive. it's an active investigation. they're looking for witnesses in this case. no word on the identity or the age of the woman who was found dead here inside the apartment. but folks who link in t

"news4's" megan mcgrath has more. megan, what can you tell us about these solutions. >> >> they're going to do a number of things. there are other steps being taken as well to improve safety. several federal agencies began reviewing procedures and practices after a deadly incident back in january. the federal transit agent say came up with 91 action items, things that metro had to change to improve safety. 17 for metro rail 13rks for metrobus. they'll provide an update. now, the safety issues that were flagged by the fta include not enough training for employees, a staff shortage at the rail operations and control center, not enough time for track maintenance, problems with the ventilation system, as well as systems with overall maintenance. they have already taken action in some of these areas and that they have a plan to fix the other issues that were highlighted by the fta. they're going to be updating the metro board. that meeting getting under way at 10:00. >>> megan mcgrath, live for us. at 6:06 they're getting r

megan mcgrath is keeping an eye on the bay bridge for us in maryland this morning. it was not so bad earlier, how is it looking now? >> reporter: it still looks good. but you can see we're starting to see a little bit of hazy fog. if you look at the head lights those are the folks coming across the bridge to the eastern shore. the traffic is running at speed. no delays at the toll booth. actually a perfect time to cross the bay bridge if you're headed to the beaches this weekend. and a lot of people are. now, the advice from transportation officials is get across the bridge before 10:00 this morning. if you can't do that, then wait until after 10:00 tonight. now, just historically, traditionally, we start seeing the traffic backing up around 11:30, 12:00. especially in the area of the receive wren river bridge. it goes from four lanes of traffic down to two and that starts to stack up first. then it starts to trickle down and impact the bay bridge. we are expecting a lot of people out there, so pack your patience. and plan accordingly. back to you guys at the studio

news 4 megan mcgrath is live where the reporter's father is lined up to speak right now. megan?> the rally is underway. you can see everyone who is gathered here behind me. we are on the senate side of the u.s. capital. shortly, we are going to be hearing from andy parker. his daughter was recently shot and killed. we heard the call for change. whatever it takes. we heard it right after wdvj reporter and photographer were shot to death. allison's father, andy parker, was the one that made that plea. he has been very vocal about gun violence and the need for gun control. in just a few minutes, we are expecting to hear from him at this rally. he says, gun control legislation needs to be passed. specifically background checks. that is just one story of those that are gathered here. there are many people in the audience as well as the speakers who have been personally touched by gun violence. i spoke to one young man, colin goddard, shot several times in the virginia tech shooting. he is calling on congress to take action. >> recently, we saw the horrible shooting on live television

news4's megan mcgrath has the latest. what's going on? >> reporter: well, eun, it's certainly a disturbing story. a 17-year-old girl was walking to the bus stop right around 7:00 in the morning when this happened. let's take a look at the map to give you an idea of where we're talking about here. this was near the intersection of savannah drive and woodway place in woodbridge. the teenager was headed to school and when she got near a wooded area, right near the intersection, a man exposed himself to her and made obscene gestures. there was no physical contact, he did not come towards her, but certainly disturbing nevertheless. police were called. they searched that wooded area. but they did not find the man. now, people are asked to be on alert, to walk in groups if at all possible. and certainly to report anyone who seems suspicious. megan mcgrath, news4. >>> 6:32, a frightening situation for a 3-year-old girl who is recovering after falling five stories from an apartment window. that toddler fell more than 50 feet in baileys crossroads.

news4's megan mcgrath is live outside the pentagon.gan, we can see the flag behind you. >> reporter: yeah. if you look over my shoulder you can see that large american garrison flag. it was lowered just a few moments ago. let's take a look at the video here of the actual unfurling of the flag. personnel right before the sun came up this morning we could see them up on the roof and just minutes ago they unfurled that large american flag here on the west side of the pentagon. now, this is something that we have seen now for several years. a flag -- a flag, a large garrison flag like this was unfurled for the first time the day after the attack and it's become a tradition here at the pentagon and today is no different. as people are making their way into the pentagon for the regular work day and it is a regular work day, it's a symbol of exactly what happened here and also kind of something folks can focus on as they remember the victims who died here to say there's a remembrance ceremony at 9:30. another ceremony at 2:00. back to you. >>

news4's megan mcgrath on the bay bridge, looking at things. megan, how is it looking? >> reporter: it looks terrific if you're an early bird, if you can get out of to house soon, now is a terrific time to leave. we are not seeing any delays at the bay bridge. many people consider labor day to be summer's last hurrah. that means they will be headed off to the beach, to the maryland and the delaware beaches which means they're going to be crossing the bay bridge. which you see live behind me. traffic right now, running at speed. i came across about an hour ago had no problems at all. i had an e-zpass, there was no line. i cruised on through. that'll be the case for a while this morning, but of course the traffic is going to continue to build as we wear into the afternoon. an estimated 354,000 vehicles are expected to go over this bridge. over the long holiday weekend. if you can leave before 10:00 a.m., that's your best bet. if you can't leave by then, and you don't want to sit in traffic the advice here is to leave after 10:00 tonight. really around 11:00 in the afterno

news4's megan mcgrath is live at the pentagon with more on what's happening this morning to remember the lives lost. good morning. >> reporter: well, good morning, aaron. certainly this is a day to remember the victims and there are a number of observant ceremonies scheduled here at the pentagon today. but this is also a regular work day for people and shortly we are expecting to start to see some of the folks walking to their offices here at the pentagon. but certainly a very somber day as the victims are remembered here at the pentagon. now, at around 6:40 this morning as the sun is upp coming up, we are going to see a large flag unfurled along the west side. that is where the plane made entry. also there's going to be a remembrance ceremony. that's going to get underway at 9:30 this morning. now, this is an invitation only event. it is open only to the families of the victims as well as survivors of the attack. now, the memorial here at the pentagon, that memorial -- [ no audio ] >> all right. it appears we lost megan's signal. we'll try to get her back and have more of her report

. >>> i'm megan mcgrath live outside the district's 911 call center where a graduation ceremony is about to get under way in just a few minutes. now, there have been concerns about the 911 center, specifically with respect to staffing levels in light of a jump in calls for service this summer. now, today a new graduating class is going to be added. there are 22 people who will join the call center in all. 11 call takers, 11 dispatchers. the hope is that the added personnel will help handle an increase in 911 calls. the emergency call center was handling about 3800 calls a day, but this summer that number jumped to 4400 calls a day. this is the first graduating class in about five years. mayor bowser is going to speak at the graduation and we'll talk to her about the staffing levels, how this will improve things at the center. we'll also find out exactly who these new folks are who will be joining the center. i've been told that some of them have first responder experience as well as dispatch experience from other jurisdictions, which they hope will be helpful in their new role here in th
