megan mcgrath joining us live with the latest. >> reporter: this happened just a few hours ago. so it's very early in the investigation. but preliminarily, police believe that this deadly stabbing stems from some sort a domestic incident, that it was not a random act of violence. there is a connection here. police were called to the apartment building on livingston road right around 1:30 this morning. and that's when they found a man bleeding, he apparently had been stabbed. he was taken from the scene to a local hospital and later pronounced dead. now, investigators could be seen carrying a young child out of the apartment building. it is unclear what if any relationship that child has to the victim here. at this point no arrests have been made. police have not yet released the name of the man who died. reporting live in southeast, megan mcgrath, news 4. >>> we're monitoring the condition of a maryland state trooper following a terrible crash on the beltway. maryland state police say trooper ezra ganeshananda suffered critical injuries. he was rushed to a baltimore hospital aft

megan mcgrath is there with the latest. >> reporter: well, just a few minutes ago, police cleared the scene behind me and we now have all of the lanes of columbia pike opened here. we're in the 3600 block of columbia pike. earlier this morning, though, we did have some closures after a shooting occurred right here in the area of the burger king and there is also a barber shop next door. we could see fire crews here on the scene a little while ago, hosing off the sidewalk in front of the burger king. now, this all began to unfold at around 10:30 last night. police say that there was some sort of an argument, it turned physical. and then escalated from there. eventually shots were fired, one man was hit by a bullet. the update that we have is that that person, that victim is going to be okay, that they are expected to survive. no word on any arrests. as you saw in when we were first arriving here on the scene, there were three are cars that were being towed from the scene on flat bed trucks. obviously part of the investigation. in terms of what led to this argument, this fight that then

megan mcgrath is live now at dupont circle to take us on an underground journey.o wait if we want to go. >> reporter: yeah, it's really -- going to be very popular. tickets are sold out for several weeks, so you can't go this weekend, but the exhibit opens this weekend. and it's an interesting concept. all those little plastic balls used at the beach exhibit are all being used to make these interesting brand new structures down here in the dupont underground. this is the old trolley station locatednd circle. it hasn't been used really since 1962 and the idea here is that people will create their own art. if you take a look at this, what they have done here is they have taken all of those little balls and they have glued them together and put little velcro pieces on them. so if you can score a ticket, you will be able to come in for one hour and you'll be able to construct, deconstruct, whatever you want down here in the tunnel. so it's an interesting idea because the exhibit is going to change all the time. every hour depending upon the ir conspiracy race that str

now let's check in with megan mcgrath live with more on how this could affect you. >> reporter: good morning. bottom line, if you want to avoid the area around the convention center because of all of the road closures like the one you see hbehind me. you can see the tour buses lined up in the right-hand side, right hand lane here on 11th street. just a few minutes ago, they were actually double that only one lean was gane was by. they have fewer options in terms of dropping passengers off, so is that one of the many trickled down things we're seeing. also the mt. vernon metro station is still closed. frap trains are by passing that station. world leaders are talking about a variety of issues including how to keep nuclear materials out of the hands of terrorists. you can expect traffic to be impacted once again during the morning rush hour as well as the evening rush hour. we're expecting things to get back to normal sometime after 8:00 tonight. also something to keep in mind is that there is a demonstration happening this afternoon at mcpherson square. and they actually have kind of

megan mcgrath has more on what is happening today at the >> reporter: good morning. it's been two years since relisha rudd disappeared. and despite the pass alleage of, police have emphasized that it remains an open investigation. they will continue to seek information, that they will follow up on leads as they present themselves. and today's search here at the national arboretum is evidence of that. we are expecting to see investigators early this morning possibly as early as 6:30. they will be focusing on a small pond here on the grounds of the arboretum. dive teams will being a part of today's search. they will also searching yesterday here at the arboretum, they were out here for several hours. there were dozens of police officers involved, k-9s and the like, spent a lot of time looking away on the grounds, however nothing was found. they are going to be out here again today. the chief of police saying has led them here to the arboret arboretum. that is why the new search is under way. they won't elaborate on the kind of information they received, but that is why

news4's megan mcgrath is live at a church in southeast. megan, what's going on there? >> reporter: well, right around 9:30 in the morning, that's when the 911 call came in. if you look over my shoulder here, we're standing on second street in southeast. if you look down to the next block there, that's where we have the detour in place. police not allowing anybody, any traffic along the front of this church. this is st. peter's church on second street in southeast. around 9:30 this morning, someone called 911, said that they thought they had perhaps a carbon monoxide situation. when crews arrived on the scene, they found two people who were not feeling well. they were transported, taken to the hospital. at this point we don't have any information about their condition. now, they're still trying to figure out, i'm told, the origin of the carbon monoxide. that is still under investigation. they're not exactly sure where it came from. there is the ch there is also the rectory next door. so, no information at this point on what may have caused this carbon monoxide situation

megan mcgrath has more on the repairs and how long they will take. >> reporter: it will take a while. ten years or more, that's the estimate on this next phase of repair. the sun has come up a little bit this morning so we can give you an idea of what we're talking about. if you look along the side, you can still in place, an indication of all of the work that has yet to be done. and this earthquake hit back in 2011, so giving you an idea of just the amount of dwandamage t done here. phase two gets under way and later today we'll get a look at some of the broken typicals and the replacement pieces robotically carved that are going to replace them. now, a giant crane will be used to take brochb stones off of the cathedral. these are huge stones they range in size from 400 pounds to 2800 pounds. the second phase of the repair work here is going to take more than ten years to complete. it will be done in stages and we're being told that the work will only begin when enough money has been raised to complete that phase of work. but we are starting to see

megan mcgrath is live i county. megan? >> barbara, it really is a terrible story. a 2-year-old girl is dead after her mother's boyfriend accidentally left her unattended in a car for several hours. now police say the boy friend put three children, the 2-year-old girl and her siblings, age 10 and 15 in the car at a residence on conwell drive. that happened in the morning yesterday. he then dropped off the two older children and returned back home, not realizing that the toddler was still in the back seat. several hours later, around 3:30, he then drove to pentagon city to pick up the child's mother. that's when he saw the 2-year-old child unconscious in the back seat. police say it appears that this was an accident. they do not suspect there was y criminal intent. >> detectives have alluded to the pib routine. when people get in a routine like this, they become accustomed to doing things in an order. that's how you accomplish things. it becomes habitual. if that routine or habit changes, sometimes it leads to a tragedy like this. >> reporter: now the official high a

news 4's megan mcgrath is live outside the convention center next to one of those roads in red right now that's been a real tricky spot for a lot of drivers. megan? >> reporter: it really has. we're here on k. street. k. street is one of those red roads, which is means that it is closed. and they actually have been standing by, manning, actually directing traffic here for the last couple of hours, trying to get people through the area. because we have a lot of closed roads here, all around the convention center. that has been the case for the last couple of days. and it's been a major inconvenience. not only can people not drive through the area, there are parking restrictions, as well. also, the mt. station has been closed. it is still closed, so people who normally use that metro station, they've had to walk down to gallery place, so that's increased their walk time, their commute, as well. so, it's been an inconvenience, but the light is at the end of the tunnel. things are going to start to get back to normal. for example, the metro station is going to reopen by 8:00 tonight, and

the fire started around 9:30 last night on g street, and that's where megan mcgrath >> reporter: thisas a very dangerous situation. the fire was burning on the upper floors of this townhouse trapping a man and woman down in the basement. because of the flames, they coopera couldn't use the stairs to get up and out. and the windows in the basement were covered with metal security bars. so they were trapped in the basement. it that's when two quick thinking neighbors sprang into action. rick and leon realized what was going on and they used a truck to pull the bars off the window. >> when he said they were in the basement, i seen hands out the window. so automatically i knew there were bars on there and they wasn't able to get out through the upstairs because the upstairs was on fire and there was no basement door. so immediately i got my truck and chaen ain and pulled the baf the window. >> reporter: and police officers on routine the scene, they helped leon and kick pull the man and woman out of those windows to safety. a lot of damage here to this town home, but the good news here is
