news 4's megan mcgrath has seen a lot of snow as she has been traveling around this morning in some slushy areas. megan, any progress right now? how is it looking? >> well, we are on west patrick street right now. downtown frederick, take a look for yourself. take a look at our live picture here. you can see we have some slush on the road in the middle of the lane as well as on the side. would he have seen a lot of people out and about getting the snow off their stoops, their stairs. so we are seeing the clean up begin, but we are seeing slippery conditions on those secondary neighborhood streets. so folks are going to want to take it easy. here is some video, some of the other roads, the secondary roads that we've encountered. slick spots, just a little bit treacherous. .not terrible. they had about an inch and a half to 2 inches of snow here in the frederick area. so not an enormous storm, but just enough to make things a little bit sloppy this morning. that's why the kids are on a two-hour delay here today for school. we've been talking to motorists and they say, really, when you get to

. >> megan mcgrath has more morning. megan. >> well, the worker was pulled out of this had utility shaft that you see behind me here. it's a shaft in the sidewalk on wisconsin avenue. he was rescued at about 3:00 this morning. has serious injuries. injuries to his legs, his back, also suffering tr hypothermia. but we're told that he is expected to recover. now, there was some overnight done in this shaft. i'm joined by pete with the montgomery county fire and ems. talk about what was going on. some maintenance work, they were down in the shaft. >> yeah. you know, they are doing a lot of work throughout the whole metro system. this is just some of it is that is going on. this is next to the vent shaft, it's a utility shaft, tul. this worker fell about 35 feet. so it was a little bit of a -- we had to do some roping and rigging and what we would call technical rescue to bring him up. >> talk about his injuries. >> so it was consistent with what you might expect from fall. as you mentioned, possible leg injuries, back injuri

megan mcgrath has been on the roads showing us the conditions across maryland today. >> megan, good morning. how are the roads looking around red rick? >> well, we were seeing a ri the major roads look good. some of the secondary streets, not so good. more snow here in frederick than we saw earlier in clarks berg. it now we are parked in a parking lot just off of market street. this obviously has not been treated and we are seeing some slush. we are seeing some snow accumulation. we've got about an inch and a half to 2 inches of snow that has fallen here in forget rick overnight. now we are pelg out on to grove road. and, again, a secondary road here and you can see the conditions. we have some slush and some slick spots. you can see the sheen across the roadway here. we're approach ago car coming in the other direction here and you can see they are going rather slowly here, which is the way to go. make sure you take it easy out there on those secondary streets because the untreated roads are goinging to be a little slick here this morning. now, we have been talking to them about the road c

. >> megan mcgrath is live with a breakdown of those graduation rates. me good news this morning, megan. >> yeah, encouraging news for educators in maryland. high school graduation rates are up and dropout rates are down. let's take a look at the specific numbers here. statewide, more than 87% of high school students graduated. that's up six points from 2010. but dropout rates fell below 8%port very first time. good news there. let's take a look at the local numbers here. prince george's county show improvement. more than 81% of seniors that's up 276 points and is a record high in prince georges county. in hont gomry county, the graduation rate is 89.83%. that's a slight increase. charles county, 92%. here is some bad news, though. frederick county saw a drop in graduationing rates. they're at 92% down from 93.4%. back to you guys in the studio. >> megan mcgrath, thank you very much. >>> we all probably know somebody that's struggling to pay off students loans. the debts can be crippling. that was the case for this student, matt portwood who took out a $4

megan mcgrath has been showing us the conditions through throughout maryland today. megan, good mor we're here in frederick just off of market street. not a ton of snow, but you have, you can see, that it's coding the grass here. i'm mott seeing the snow spoking through like we did in gaithersburg. you can maybe get a better idea looking at the poll here. that would be about 2 inches or so. but not causing any major problems. everybody knew this light dusting of snow was coming. the road crews were out there in full force for the last 4 hours or so. they pretreated those roads and they're in pretty good shape there. we were driving on to 70 earlier. just west pavement. take a look at this. this is a side street off of market street here in frederick. some of these areas obviously were not treated. you can see some slick spots. encounter here today. just here and there, residential treats. those secondary roads that weren't treated with chemicals, they may be slick this morning. once you get out there to the wet roads, all we saw was smooth sailing. we are seeing some

news 4's megan mcgrath is there live on indiana avenue. megan? >> well, it between green peace protesters and the police. and later this afternoon, those protesters are going to make their very first court appearance. take a look at this video, it's really something to see here. yesterday morning, seven protesters climbed a construction crane just a few blocks away from the white house. they then unfurled a massive banner that said resist. they were up there all day long and they didn't climb down until a little after 10:00 last night. once they got down on the ground, that's when all seven were arrested. they have been charged with second degree burglary, unlawful entry as well as destruction of property. we are expecting to see them here before a judge sometime after 1:00 this afternoon. now, the seven climbed the crane to protest president donald trump's policies, police though say they respect everybody's right to protest but they say this was extremely dangerous and unlawful. back to you all in e >> thank you. new today, thieves robbed two p

megan mcgrath has more on the breaking news from the metro station. megan. >> well, guys, you can see the utility shaft behind me here. it's in a sidewalk along wisconsin avenue near elm street. now, the worker was doing some overnight work in that shaft. he had gone down one ladder, had made it to a platform and was going down a second latter when he fell to the bottom of the shaft. so the area where he landed, it's about 30 feet below ground. emergency crews had to use ropes .some other special apparatus to pull him out of this shaft. now, he did have some serious injuries to his legs, to his back. he was feeling the effects of hypothermia. but we're told that those injuries are not considered to be life threatening. he is expected to recover. now, at this point, everything is back to normal. for a while, road closures in the area. but if you're commuting using the bethesda metro, everything is back to normal. back to you in the studio. >> all right, megan, thank you. >>> there is going to be a major closure on metro over the super bowl weekend. this

megan mcgrath is live in alex andrea with more on how you can spre protect your property. >> well, guys, unfortunately, this is still an open case. alexandria police still looking for whoever is responsible. but talk about a mess here, take a look at the video. imagine waking up, you head down to the parking garage of your condo complex. you're ready to go to work. and this is what you find. your car with smashed in windows and it's not just your car, but the cars of your neighbors, as well. it happened at a condo complex between king street and braddock road in alexandria. 21 cars had their window broken in. an expensive fix, as you would imagine. we spoke to people there at that complex. they say it's a real hassle. one woman says she was with her young child when she discovered a car. >> we have little baby, like he is going to a school and he was really scared, what's happened, mommy. >> now, this isn't the only incident. there was something similar that happened in the west end section of alexandria. a dozen cars had their windows smashed in there. there was an incident green belt
