megan mcgrath live at the franconia springfield station. >> reporter: with the coming of the silver line, there will be more options for riders and some will see a decrease in their wait times for trains. so good news there. however, if you ride along the blue line, you may actually see a negative impact. you might have to wait longer for a train. only so many trains can pass through the roslyn tunnel, that's a choke point in the system. so to make way for the silver line trains, they're reducing the number of blue line trains. so what does that mean for folks who ride the blue line? take a look. blue line trains are going to come every 12 minutes during rush hour. that's up from 8 1/2 minutes which is what was seen previous to the silver line. metro says wait times will go from an average of 4 minutes to 6 minutes, that's an increase of about 2 minutes during rush hour. we've been talking to folks here. some say they believe they wait too long for a train as it is. others say an extra two minutes is not a big deal. >> for an extra two minutes, i think it would hurt my time being at the

megan mcgrath is live at the wehle reston station. >> reporter: and if you look behind me, you can see a train in the station right now. no passengers on board of course. just still doing their dry run here making sure that everything is ready for the big day tomorrow. that's when of course the silver line will open. a lot of excitement. this has been a long time in the making. $2.9 billion and a lot of folks eager to starting today the new silver line service. there will an inaugural train with dignitaries and invited guests and at noon, the silver line opens for regular service. let's take a closer look at some specifics here. there will be five new stations on the silver line. four are clustered around tysons, one of course at wehle avenue and reston. this is the only new station that has a parking garage. the other four do not. folks can now ride the rails on the silver line from rest top a reston to what alargo. every six minutes during rush hour. the big test comes monday morning during the morning rush hour. back to you. >> we calculated just how much time and money a trip on th

we start with megan mcgrath live with police as they try to figure out what happened here. megan, what do we know? >> reporter: well, we can tell you that police are still here on the scene collecting evidence. take a look behind me here. you can see all of the police cars. you can see perhaps an evidence bag there besides one of the vehicles there. they have been at it all morning long and continue with this effort. they actually have several different crime scenes in the area. all of them connected. of course, they are focusing most of their attention on huron avenue where the victim was found. an adult male found dead here just a little down from the corner of the street. now this all began to unfold at 1:30 this morning. when officers arrived on the scene they began to look around and discovered the body of this adult male here on hur ton aven. no more information about the investigation itself, but still very active. we are expecting police to be here on the scene for a while yet. and this is having an impact on traffic in the area, although i should say there is some i

megan mcgrath is joining us live with much more. >> reporter: well, good morning. the family car, before buying one, parents look at all kinds of things. safety record of the vehicle, kind of braking system, the air bags the car has. anything that will keep their children safe. but on a hot summer day, any car can prove deadly for a child. an average of 38 kids die every single year because they're left in hot cars. this year alone, 17 kids have died. and officials are trying to put afternoon end an end to it. the sun is up, but it's still not hot. we have about 70 degrees inside my car. have some cloud cover. as soon as we starting today to see the sun, though, this temperature will rise and it will rise very quickly. and it can be a deadly situation for children. take a look. it only takes ten minutes for the temperature inside a car to rise 20 degrees. on a 60 degree day, so not everyone that high, car temperatures can reach 110 degrees or above. and a child dies when their body temperature hits 107 degrees. so it doesn't take much. there will be a public servic

megan mcgrath has been on the scene all morning. she's live with what police and those in the neighborhood are seeing. megan. >> reporter: richard, five hours later you can see behind me that investigators are still here on the scene gathering evidence. they have been talking to neighbors this morning. we've seen a number of family members come here to the scene looking for answers, but at this point police will only say that a man was fatally shot inside this home on chessington way. detectives knock on neighbors' doors looking for information. jackie peters says she heard a strange noise early this morning. >> i'm a very light sleeper. probably around 4:30, 5:00 this morning, i just heard something that sounded just like a pop sound. >> reporter: peters didn't think much of it until -- >> another hour or so, got up, looked out the window because i heard a lot of traffic movement out here and saw all the cars out here. so very surprised. >> reporter: there was a large police presence on chessington way in bowie. officers were brought here by
