i'm megan reuther. a des moines man is now charged with killing his wife and daughter, three months after the crime. 47 year old barney fraaken is charged with two counts of first degree murder. he's accused of killing his wife amy and his 16 year old daughter amber back in 2015. police say fraaken shot his wife and daughter on november 22nd. both bodies were found in the family's home in the 42-hundred block of hull avenue. police say fraaken then shot himself. he had been in the hospital charges. police say the murders were related to a domestic conflict. the trial for a boone man accused of murdering his wife continues today. alexander fazzino is accused of killing is wife--emily-- in their boone home back in 2012. most of the testimony yesterday focused around the night of emily's death. pictures taken of emily at the hospital showed she had some bruising around her neck. yesterday the family's nanny took the stand. she said the relationship between alex and emily was rocky at times. sot: 30 "i aske

i'm megan reuther. iowa has lost out in a bidding war to keep du-pont's agricultural headquarters in johnston. du-pont and chemical giant, dow, announced plans to merge into one company, called "dow-du-pont" last year. the merger will spin off three separate companies, with one focused on agriculture. that led state leaders to push the merging company to keep its ag-based branch headquarterd in johnston, where du-pont pioneer is currently stationed. the company announced this morning the headquarters will be moved to wilmington, delware... but it's chosen to designate the johnston location as its "global business center"...keeping all activities running out of iowa. mayor paula dierenfeld says she feels good about the deal, noting that even without the "headquarters" status, johnston sits at an advantage with this deal. 5:09:46 "you know, we have been named the global business center for the seed and the biotech business of the new merged company. so that's what we really want to be, that's what our str

i'm megan reuther. a man who pleaded guilty to two counts of first degree murder is dead in what appears to be a suicide. jerry dillinger was found last night hanging from a bed sheet at the iowa medical and classification center in coralville. he was transferred to the university of iowa hospital where he was pronounced dead. no foul play is suspected, but an investigation is underway. dillinger pleaded guilty last month to the murders of michael robinson and loretta dillinger. loretta was jerry's ex sister in law and michael was a boyfriend of his niece. loretta's body was found in a farm pound near lorimor in december. and robinson's body was found loretta's death. a prominent des moines community leader will be laid to rest next week. the funeral for former principal financial c-e-o david hurd is set for wednesday. it will be at first unitarian church in des moines at 10:30. a community visitation will be held on tuesday at the capitol square atrium. the 86 year old died on saturday after falling fr

i'm megan reuther a suspect in a month's long hit and run investigation turned himself into police. 37 year old ronald paul hauser of van meter turned himself in last night. he is charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death of a person and operating a motor vehicle while under the influence. west des moines police found 21- year-old daulton holly of tennessee dead in the 6-thousand block of raccoon river drive. the accident happened in august police say the investigation was able to link parts of the vehicle left at the scene to the vehicle hauser was driving. they seized the vehicle a few days after the accident. surveillance video from businesses in area was also helpful in the investigation. two schools remain on lockdown this noon hour while police look into a threat made this morning. administrators at collins-maxwell say both the high school and elementary school were placed on lockdown status after a parent called in a threat to several staff members earlier this morning. police are looking into the situation, meanwhile, students and staff are being kept ind

i'm megan reuther. thank you for joining us. an early morning fire is now being investigated as intentional...and we expect to learn more details about this incident later this afternoon. just after midnight, officers responded to a report of a person yelling outside their home... when crews arrived at 25 hundred 26th street in des moines...they a short time later...crews were called back to the same house when they got there a 48-year-old man was inside... threatening police with a gun. while officers tried to speak to the man...they saw a fire break out. police were not able to get the man to come out of the home before the fire spread. crews entered the home and tried to rescue the man.... and even tazed him. it didn't take... and by the time the fire department stepped in the man died inside. firefighters were able to put out the fire. and officials say the investigation started. des moines police will hold a news conference at one thirty this afternoon. we'll have more on our later newscasts. one person is hurt after an ear

i'm megan reuther. thank you for joining us. many schools are closed for the day and some of you may be enjoying a day off work. we team coverage of this snow storm moving through the state. we start with meteorologist ad lib wx quick a blizzard warning is in effect today for those north and west of the des moines metro. moderate to heavy snow is expected at times and wind speeds will increase as well. winds will be strong from the north-northeast at 20 to 30 mph, gusts to 40 mph. this will create very difficult driving conditions all day through the start of wednesday. a winter storm warning is in effect for those southwest and southeast of des moines until 6 am wednesday. a band of moderate snow will continue to push through des moines will continue in northwest iowa. the snow will taper off in des moines by noon as drier air works into the central and southern part of the state. there may even be a few rain showers at times during the afternoon and early evening. but the snow will still northwest. totals will be in the 3 to 6

i'm megan reuther. thank you for joining us. two people are hospitalized following a shooting in eagle grove sunday night. it happened around 8 sunday night. crews responded to a call that a man had been shot in the 100 block of they found the suspect and victim had been shot. the victim was taken to a hospital in clarion then transferred to mercy medical center the suspect was taken to a fort dodge hospital and then transferred to iowa methodist this time. the iowa division of criminal investigation is assisting eagle grove police with the case. but they have yet to name any suspects or say what led to the shooting. and our later newscasts. the iowa state patrol is trying to piece together what led to a deadly accident on i-35 this morning. jackknifed and overturned on interstate 35...just south of cumming. the crash killed the driver. investigating the cause. crews had to close down north bound lanes but they have since been reopened. this is the same area where a over back in december. traffic is back to normal following a ro

i'm megan reuther. the gunman was armed with a long gun and a pistol during the mass shooting near wichita, kansas. police were able to shoot and kill the gunman, but officials say the death toll would be much higher if it weren't for the heroic actions of a police officer. sarah plake has the story. workers inside rural kansas plant described a chaotic scene. "everybody was running, people were screaming, people were crying, we just didn't know what to do." "and more people running and all of a sudden pop pop pop, i too. when it was over four people were killed... including the gunman, 14 others wounded... five critically. witnesses say the suspect.. cedric larry ford... who was an employee of the excel industries plant.. was armed with an assault style weapon and a handgun. police say ford also shot and wounded three people he encountered on the way to the plant before he went inside and opened fire.
