meteorologist megan salois joins us now... a des moines man will stand fall.... 24 year old troy mure junior is charged with vehicular homicide by reckless driving. but he responsible girlfriend. this is all that was left of his car after he spun out, slamming back in november. the crash killed his passenger, 22-year old scalicity perez. police say he was speeding at the time. they also thought he may have been intoxicated... but those charges were later dropped. mure claims he was being chased and shot at when it all happened. he says he was speeding to get away. his bench trial will now get underway at 1-30 this afternoon at the polk county courthouse it's expected to last 4 days. a florida man will soon learn if he will be released from jail while he waits for his trial in iowa to begin... 19 year old kevin ramirez was indicted in federal court last week... he's charged with two counts of "enticement of a minor," and "possession of child traveled to ottumwa to meet a 13 year old girl in october. that triggered an amber aler

let's head down to megan salois at the science center. ad lib wx quick the rest of the afternoon temperatures will hold in the mid 30s with mostly cloudy to partly sunny skies. more than 200-thousand people are expected to gather to hear pope francis speak to the violence plagued mexican city of juarez. well final preparations underway here at the sun bowl at the university of texas el paso campus. later today 50 thousand or more are expected to gather here to listen as the pope delivers his final mass from just across the border in juarez. it's the end of a five day mexican tour for the pope and he will say mass to more than a million who will gather in mexico and those tens of thousands who will be here. it will be a mix of theology and technology this afternoon. there will be a two way video feed so the pope will be able to see and hear those gathered here as they watch and listen to his message. we expect to see people fill this stadium long before the mass this afternoon. they will join in prayer and song celebrating the papal visit.

megan salois, who is outside keeping an afternoon. ad lib wx quick a blizzard warning is in effect today for those north and west of the des moines metro. moderate to heavy snow is expected at times and well. winds will be strong from the north-northeast at 20 to 30 mph, gusts to 40 mph. this will create very difficult driving conditions all day through the start of wednesday. a winter storm warning is in effect for those southwest and southeast of des moines until 6 am wednesday. a band of moderate snow will continue through mid morning. heavy snow will continue in northwest iowa. the snow will taper off in des moines by noon as drier air works into the central and southern part of the state. there may even be a few rain showers at times during the afternoon and early evening. but the snow will still come down heavy to the northwest. totals will be in the 3 to 6" range through central iowa, including des moines, with totals 8" + in northwest iowa. southeast iowa will see mainly rain. blowing snow will continue to be a problem mainly

channel 13's megan salois is live outside with a look at conditions in des moines. and josh ngyen is at the airport... we'll check in with them a little later in the show. but first... the iowa caucus wrapped last night... or early this morning... in historic fashion. republican party reps reported record turnout... meanwhile democrats spent all night tracking the closest race in iowa democratic caucus history of this morning. we're waiting on one final precinct, but as of 2:45 am... things are clear enough to in less than half a percentage point more than bernie sanders for the win... clinton with 49.9 percent. sanders with 49.5 percent. that's a difference of just five delegate votes. martin o'malley brought in one percent with just 8 votes. for the republicans, another relatively tight race. ted cruz takes the lead with 28 percent. donald trump falls 4 percent behind him with 24 percent. and marco rubio surges nearby at 23 percent. ben carson 9 percent. rand paul 5 percent. jeb bush 3 percent. carly fiorina 2 percent. john kasich 2 percent. mike huckabee 2 percen
