"new york times" chief political analyst nate cohen describes it as puzzle. what do you make of it? >> i'm one of those people, you don't live and die by the polls. the only poll that matters is on election day. while it's great to see movement in the battleground states, those are a snop shot in time of today, and probably post debate where she is getting a little bit of bump like your previous guest mentioned. where it is puzzling to be tied nationally, and ahead in battleground states, it's important to see growth and movement here. it's a positive trend but i would focus on the cross apps and polls that came out yesterday where she's closing the gap on what people trust her versus trump on the economy and the immigration issue. she's closing the gap.

and then this is a byproduct of that meghan hays, do you agree? yeah, i actually do really agree with matt here. i also think that, you know, polls are a snapshot in time which we've all talked about. and i think that the polling i'm not sure that the polling is accurate and enough to kids recapture some of the things i think we always thought it was going to they close. there's going to be closed when joe biden was running. it's now close when the vice president is running, but i do think that some of these unfortunate incidents that are happening with the republican party in north carolina and some of the other stories that are making news will impact turnout, which i do think will have an end, we'll have a result in the end. in november. and like matt said, with trump not being able to get a cohesive message that is only in the democrats favor where the vice president is running on vibes and being able to capture the enthusiasm. we are also being able to capitalize on some of donald trump's downfalls i don't think we should say that donald don'

megan -- meghan hays, is with me on set. i found that to be interesting.u go out, especially in cities or in places that seem to have a very strong political identity, there is shock that people have not made up their minds yet or don't follow it as closely as a lot of people do who may be in our circle. that suggests to me that people are listening, didn't though, are still making up their minds, but what do you take away from the small sampling in the very key county. >> i think it's exactly right. someone said that she was relatively unknown to them. we know meets with world leaders. for normal people, the president takes the oxygen. she was relatively unknown, and they had the convention. she gave an incredible speech. she has been out talking about women's rights, and reproductive freedom, and laying out the policies for the commit. people are learning her story and seeing that she can be a leader, and that's what we're seeing here is people now believe she can be a leader. she can be the president, and she does perform strongly and has leadership cap
