for 2 days now is for lanka navy and indian coast guard ships are trying to help to put out the fire mel fernandez joins us live from colombo tell us more about what's going on there at sea. the firefighting efforts from what we're hearing on the ground here us still very much on the way now the vessel itself is on man and all the crew have been evacuated the surviving crew there is no power because of the fire so it is drifting basically in international waters it seemed that it was moving slightly towards the sri lankan course something that the sri lankan authorities are very conscious of this is off the eastern coast of sri lanka now obviously more than 2000000 barrels of crude oil. massive environmental disaster waiting to happen we just heard the official press conference by the navy the marine environment protection agency about what is being done so far now obviously the sea they're keeping close tabs of working with the indian course to bring the flame under control to cool the surrounding 5 sort of parts of the ship to prevent the spread of those flames into the cargo area but
