fox 5s money reporter melanie alnwick is looking into the sudden change of plans that will allow countyres to be open for business on sundays. >> reporter: the official line from the county, this change has nothing to do with revenue and the decision comes close to residence voting down the ambulance fee, which the county budgeted almost $13 million for and sudden sales will begin november 21st, store hours from 12-6:00 p.m. and this is a six-month pilot program. the county has 24 retail liquor stores, which put a descent amount of cash into the county coiffures. last year, the department of liquor control transferred third million dollars to the general fund and that is from monday to side sales. the sales could bring in another 1.5 to $2 million in that tight budget environment, every dollar helps. they have to come from somewhere and that could be the small convenience stores. the retailers have been allowed to sell beer and wine on sundays and benefited from being the only game in town and many can't compete with the county's prices and are concerned they will lose customers. they h

melanie wilkes has more on the challenges ahead. >> reporter: with little time left on the clock, congress still needs to pass a budget or a bill to fund the government temporarily. they need to decide whether to extend unemployment benefits and whether to plan to extend bush era tax cuts. the obama administration should focus on saving jobs. >> the last few days that lawmakers expect to make in congress this year should focus on everything except proventing this tax hike which will cost us even more jobs. >> reporter: will congress' lame duck session be productive or lame? the obama administration is hoping lawmakers have enough time to tackle defense issues in europe. >> we're continuing to work with our democratic and republican senators to hold that vote this year. >> reporter: and then there is the don't ask don't tell policy. mike mullen would rather see the lame duck congress address it than decide it in courts. >> at some point in time the courts could change that law and in that not give us the right amount of time to implement it. >> reporter: and these tasks are more daunting wh
