fox 5's melanie alnwick is live in bethesda with the latest. >> reporter: good morning. a big thank you for crews from oklahoma, florida, missouri, even as fur way as new brunswick, canada who are coming here to join in the effort. they didn't get here for the most part until yesterday and so today, they are really making more and more inroads into the neighborhoods. the focus we're told right now is on restoring the feeders. those are the big power lines that can connect as many as 1,000 homes at once so they can get a lot of people turned on with just getting those feeders back together. but we are seeing still some very slow progress in neighborhoods like this one in bethesda where this large tree has come down and the residents say that they've called several times but still haven't seen any tree trimming crews out here. again, it is going to be slow going. pepco says they are making progress. at this point, pepco says it has restored tower to 60% of the 443,000 out at the peak. 2700 personnel have been moblized for this effort including 700 out of state power line w

melanie alnwick is live at metro headquarters with the details. what happened? >> reporter: good morning. they're still trying to figure out what happened, and i think that's why even though metro says they're taking steps so they won't have additional problems this morning, they don't have 100% assurance, because if you don't know what the problem is, how can you solve it? there was major track work this weekend, but technicians haven't been able to say what caused this particular system to go down. it happened twice over the weekend, this computer malfunction, it brought the trains to a stand still. happened saturday between 2:10 and 2:50 in the afternoon and around 1:00 in the morning sunday. there's a system that allows controllers to see where the trains are on this digital map, and they can also remotely control the switches. suddenly, that system went dark. each time the trains were told to hold their position at the next station. passenger delays lasted as long as 40 minutes. metro says the operators were able to use traffic lights and speed commands wer
