melanie alnwick is live with the latest. >> reporter: good morning. this is still a scene here although a lot of the additional equipment has been rolled up. but firefighters are going to be here on the scene they say at least until day break. so here is what we know happened. we also have some pictures from last night to show you as well. firefighters got a call around 10:30 last night about a fire here in one of these warehouses on moore street. this is a very busy packed area with warehouses that are full of goods and also foods and lots of businesses that are very close together. so when firefighters arrived, there was flame and smoke on the first floor. about 50 of them were inside when the situation got too dangerous and they had to call for an evacuation. the fire chief telling me that it was very hairy situation for about 10, 15 minutes there while they had to pull firefighters out. any time they have to pull firefighters out of an active scene like that, he said means it is very high risk. part of reason for that is because it is a warehouse.

melanie alnwick is live in northwest d.c. with the latest. >> reporter: good morning. you know, kwame brown actually has two sentencing hearings hearings today. the first in federal court on those bank fraud charged and then the second later this afternoon in d.c. superior court on campaign finance violation charges. now, as you mentioned, brown pleaded guilty in june. after a year-long investigation, the federal charges relate to providing false information on bank loan applications. one of the loan was for a 39- foot boat. brown also forged the signature of a friend on an application and doctored two forms to overstate his income by tens of thousands of dollars. the other charges go back to an audit by d.c.'s office of campaign finance. it found that brown's 2008 election campaign failed to report more than $400,000 in contributions an expenditures and that $239,000 wound up in the hands of a consulting company controlled by brown's brother. kwame brown's original plea agreement where he admit guilt to those charges called for a six-month jail sentence but prosecutor

i am joined by melanie, director of department of environment. there are other representatives from the mta department of environment city administrator's office, car sharing organization. we're certainly working along with all of them, working side by side with the department of environment in particular in making sure that the policy is advancing both our transportation and environmental goals, which i believe car sharing is a good example of that. so, if we could go to the presentation, i'm just going to try to walk through briefly some basics to help stimulate the conversation and answer some of the questions that you raised in your opening statement, supervisor cohen. so, car sharing does have a definition currently in the transportation code. this is it. i won't spend time on this, but just want to frame at least from the transportation code, current perspective of what the definition of car sharing is. and this largely is in line with the more traditional car sharing models and this is how the code currently defines it. so, i think you've

melanie alnwick has a preview of what to expect. >> reporter: voters can expect some very long lines today and state board of elections has been working diligently to make sure everyone is ready and prepared for what they will need today. virginia does not have early voting. some people were able to vote early but not so much here in virginia. so everyone who has not voted absentee will be heading to polling places today and they are saying to expect some long lines. new this year also is a change in the voter i. d. law. virginia has for many years required people to bring i. d. to the polls with them. but this year, if they do not have a valid i. d. with them, they will have to cast what is called a provisional ballot and they have to go back to the board of elections with the ballot i. d. by friday in order for their vote to count. in years past, if they didn't have a valid i. d., all they had to do was sign a form that said yeah, i verify that i am who i say i am. that is a bit of a change there. virginia did send send out voter i. d. cards. there is a long list of other things th
