melanie is live with all the details. good morning, melanie. >> reporter: good morning. this is all related to the city's speed camera program as we well know. there's been a lot of criticism. generated $85 million just in last fiscal year alone. new york avenue the camera is the third most ticketed. now, the higher speed limits that will begin here is not in where that speed camera is. it is part of mayor gray's comprehensive review. so let's look at where they raised the speet limits. first here on new york avenue eastbound, 45 miles an hour. new york avenue westbound from the maryland line to blade nsburg road. north capitol street from michigan to harewood road 40 to 45. and canal road from chain bridge to foxhall. >>> do have speed camera programs is to make sure before they put a camera in to make sure the speed limits are appropriate for the roadways. mayor gray says the reassessment of the speed limit shows the changes can be made without compromising safety. also the same for parts of 295 as well. those are the most ticketed locations about a month ago. the city

melanie is live at the school now with the latest. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, tony and allison. after the incident was cleared yesterday, the school principal said students were never in any danger. i think parents here would like to have a few more answers to questions before they feel confident about that. want to know how many students were involved and want to know what kind of gun it was. and also want to know what was the motivation? why did the gun end up in school in the first place. they were notified about the gun and the ones who found it. there was an ammunition magazine in the weapon but didn't release any other details about what led school officials to the locker and didn't release the student's age, gender or grade level. a letter was e-mailed to parents by the principal and said they are quote taking this situation very seriously and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken. and refers to more than one student saying the suspects involved have been identified. the school is continuing to monitor the

melanie alnwick live with a look at these changes. good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning. this is part of mayor gray's initiative to sort of take a closer look at the speed camera programs in the district. a lot of residents have complained about them. aaa mid-atlantic has called, in some cases, the fines abusive. they day comprehensive review. in november, they made some changes to the fine structure and started looking at the speed limits on the roadways and making sure those are appropriate. in doing that, they've made a couple of changes, actually increasing the speed limit. let's take a look at what is going into effect today. new york avenue where i am right now, eastbound and westbound, we are talking from the maryland line up to bladensburg road. so eastbound, the speed limit will be increased from 40 to 45 miles per hour. westbound, it will be increased from 35 to 40 miles per hour. then we go over to bladensburg road from mount olivet to 17th street and new york avenue, that is being increased from 25 to 30 miles per hour. north capital street from michigan avenu
