melanie alnwick and her crew are there on the scene.were responding to an accident this morning. they were on their way back to the station when they were hit bay tractor-trailer. they were traveling on the inner loop of route 50 when this accident happened. both vehicles went over the jersey wall and hit an suv. that is where things stand right now. we have seven people injured, four of them are firefighters. several lanes blocked off so that is where the situation stands right now. >> and as you can see, just a mass of responders that are there on the scene. both of those vehicles are on their sides. the tractor-trailer and the fire truck. so this is going to take some time to get cleaned up and figure out exactly what happened. we have a pretty good idea here from witnesses at the scene but we'll continue to follow this throughout the morning and bring you the latest. meanwhile, let's bring things back here inside to the studio and check in with tucker barnes no a look at our forecast for the day. it will be off to a nice warm start.

fox 5's melanie alnwick is live in northwest d.c.n the elements as you can clearly see there. >> we can barely see you through the snowflakes. >> part of the reason you are able to see all this snow is because my photographer dave rysak has shown a light up on it. if you were to look just out the window, you wouldn't see it coming down. it is kind of tricky like that. you wouldn't think there is precip in the air. it is so fine that there is not a lot of moisture to it at all. very, very tiny and granular but it is starting to build up a little bit. d.c. snow plows have been out here this morning. i shouldn't even say plows. i don't think there is enough out here for them to actually plow but we've seen the salt truck coming through. it doesn't take very long for them to melt that snow down into black pavement. you can look here on livingston street where we are right now. when we first arrived here maybe half an hour ago, this was covered with snow and then we saw a salt truck come by, made two passes. and you can see the end result

melanie alnwick is live now with the latest on the road conditions.looking out there in northwest? >> reporter: here in northwest dc, everything looks really good. most of the streets we've seen are down to wet pavement right now. main roads, traffic is moving along at a nice clip. and the side roads we haven't seen anybody spinning their wheels or skidding at all. we did see lots of workout here early this morning by the salt trucks. we've been monitoring metro's twitter feed and apparently a couple metro buses reroute in parts of northern virginia because of icy conditions. very important if you are waiting on a bus or planning on taking a bus, check their web site and give them a call if your side route is on this schedule. western avenue just fine. so people moving along for sure. we also just happened to be here by one of the dog parks in dc. so that is one of the things people are taking advantage of if they have that delay or don't have to be at work. the pets are really enjoying this. they are running around. they are having a good time. we al
